Metal Detecting
Hello everyone:

Call me Les.

For many years now, I have owned metal detectors. Right now I own four. All my life I have heard about dowsing but I wasn't really familiar with it from personal experience. In fact, I was somewhat of a skeptic about it.

A couple of years ago I was talking with my Rancher Cousin in southern Utah. He told me he had dowsed for water for his ranch. He told the driller where to drill and that they would hit water at about 70 feet. They hit moisture at 70’ and full flowing water at 90’. That was almost 20 years ago and that well is still flowing water today.

He explained it with such conviction and certainty that I became curious about dowsing. So I bought a couple of brass rods from the hardware store and made some dowsing rods. After all, the water tasted good too and I needed to find out for myself.

To my utmost astonishment and surprise, when my rods crossed, I found a metal target in the ground. I continued dowsing and found all kinds of things. Most were trash items with a few coins along the way. However, the undeniable change dowsing brought was the speed to an unseen target. Using only my metal detector, in most cases it would have taken and extremely long time to finally get the coil over the target, if indeed I happen to do that.

I have dowsed over 300 times now and have had phenomenal success in finding targets.

I first dowse to a target then when my rods cross, I pinpoint it with my metal detector. What I am saying is you really should try it for yourself to see how it works for you. Like myself, it could get you to targets much faster than trying to overlap a detector coil over a large area so as not to miss anything. Dowsing is simply another tool you can use.

Now, there are skeptics who will challenge you along the way and that's OK. Just remember, you would be doing it for yourself and no one else.

Below is a picture of my latest find that I found in my back yard. It's a 27” L X ½” D piece of scrap main power electrical line. It was about 45’ from where I started dowsing and about 1” deep in the ground. This find, being aluminum, in and of itself is not worth much, but like all other finds while dowsing, it is very significant in that it was found while I was dowsing.

I will be posting other finds as time goes on.

All of you dowsing people are living in la-la land  Dowsing CANNOT find anything!!! Yes, some folks will come across water, coins & a multitude of other items when dowsing. However, NOT because dowsing works. Rather, because if anyone goes around digging enough holes, sooner or later you're going to find something :sign13:

If dowsing was true, why don't all of you believers just quit your jobs, walk around with a coat hanger all day & get filthy rich? :laughing9: :laughing7:

Why don't all metal detectorists quit their jobs, walk around with a detector all day & get filthy rich? According to your posts, you believe they are superior to dowsing, so people should make TONS of money with them, right?

Because we're not as stupid as the believers in 'coat hanger magic' to think up far-fetched dreams all day :laughing9: :tongue3: :laughing7:

Really? ;D :tongue3:

As times are tough for most of us, I'm sure a LOT of extra cash wouldn't hurt, heh? So, in that vein, why don't all of you dowsing experts take up the million dollar challenge by one James Randi? If you claim it works, take the challenge. Talk is cheap. Make yourself rich. Go to www.randi.org

Let us know how you make out :laughing7:

Evening Eddie: I wonder how many optical cables, electrical lines, water, and other lines were damaged or destroyed with conventional locator use and techniques? Seems to me to be many, or they wouldn't need expensive insurance hehehehehh

Hi turd, answer post # 85. As for randi, it has been well established that regardless of what they publize, it is set up for failure. They have too much to lose and absolutely nothing to gain. Check it's history.

Hi lowlife, do your due diligence on Mr. Randi :sign13: He is a man of critical thinking. A man of science. So let me get this straight...

I know I can walk. If someone offered me a million dollars to prove it, I should have no problem proving it, would I?

I know I can breathe. If someone offered me a million dollars to prove it, I should have no problem proving it, would I?

Yet, for some strange reason, none of the many dowsers in the world can prove that the method of dowsing works in a scientific test. Hmmmmmm :dontknow:

Get back to me when you awake from la-la land :laughing9: :headbang:

P.S. - Tell Mrs. Tramp I said hello :hello:

I've never heard of a cable, line, or pipe being damaged by a "conventional locator" ;D, and I don't think I saw anyone state that the high dollar electrical locating instruments were without fault......most of which comes from the user, of course. And then, you have the folks with the big track hoes that ignore the flags and marking paint. There are many different types of interference that can throw off a null. I would still put my money on the solid state, electronic locator if competing with dowsing rods. Unless the goal is water......then the money would be on the dowser, even though I remain a skeptic.

Absolutely! All it takes is just a smidgen of brain power to read the rules and understand what they imply. :icon_thumright:

Gee the dowsers still ramble on but still HAVEN'T POST A SINGLE REASONABLE FIND ???

WHY NOT ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

jewelerguy: I too like metal detectors. I have four and have used them for years. I found that dowsing adds to the speed that I get to a target and that's important. The sooner the better as wandering around to eventually get my coil over a target can be very time consuming.

Really ? A good mder doesn,t just rely on their md and never just wonders around. Specific location found by hard research . Random is a word for persons like you who knows nothing about mding.

Research is good, especially if you're looking for specific types of finds. I'm an avid researcher. But research isn't necessary and isn't the ONLY WAY to detect. I made my best find of a silver and turquoise pendant when I was deliberately "wandering around" a big swath of beach helping to search for a stranger's lost ring. THE REASON METAL DETECTING IS SO ENJOYABLE IS THAT WE EACH CHOOSE OUR OWN STYLE! And each is free to alter their style depending on their current goals or merely how they feel on a given day! Fortunately for all of us, other than the rules of safety and law, there are no set rules to follow and no exam at the end of the semester either. Some want to hunt in a highly-focused manner and some don't. Guess what? Nobody is better than anybody else. Andi

Morning tinpan, mi down under buddy; APPARENTLY YOU DIDN'T READ POST #85, IT SPECIFICALLY LISTS PROOF THAT DOWSING, OF ALL THINGS, REMOTE DOWSING, WORKS, BACKED BY THE BERMUDA GOV'T AND THEIR CORP OF ROYAL HYDROLOGISTS??????

What more could a reasonable person or scientist ask for?

Well,,,I don't post very often, but just wanted to say here that after reading all the posts, that there has been a lot of time wasted in this forum. Those that don't believe in dowsing trying to change the mind of those that do. It really makes no difference. I tried it once, and it seems to have worked for me in finding a telephone line with about a hundred tiny copper wires running through it. We missed it with the backhoe. I haven't tried it in association with gold or coins, but I am seriously giving it some thought. If you don't believe it works, leave it alone. And leave those that do alone also. There,,I have wasted some of my time too. Thanks for letting me.

PS. Remember, the world is flat..

Very interesting. It appears that none of the dis belivers have have tried it. Ones that have tried it believe.
I'm outta here.

Thank You Andi...We are free to choose our methods and tools that we use..And believe me when I say that I will use any and all tools available to me to locate and recover Treasure...Art

Folks: The reason dowsers fail in the Randi test is Randi insists the test be done without the ideomotor factor. That's like keeping the power switch on a metal Detector in the “OFF” position then trying to detect. If Randi put his money in a test where the dowser dictates ALL the rules, he would lose his money. But, he's not that careless with his money.

It's as simple as magic. Remember, Randi is a magician and a deceiver. It's through the slight of hand in magic that makes magic what it is. In his so called scientific test, the slight of hand is eliminating the ideomotor factor.

BTW, tinpan lives in Bandigo VIC Australia. Bandigo VIC Australia is the second largest gold field in Australia. It should come as no surprise to anyone that he finds as much gold as he does. They think there is as much gold, if not more still there than what was taken out in the 1800’s. If he lived where there is little or no gold, like where I do, he wouldn't be bragging so much about finding gold.

You have eloquently summed everything up.......nice job! I don't think anyone could intelligently argue with anything you stated. :icon_thumleft:

So where in my fair and reasonable statement did i say i was better than anybody else .OWN STYLE adds up too what ? nothing just like BS.

Never tried it, but, I say it's baloney :spam4: Could be your nerves, spasms, etc. moving the rods. Due to the sheer amount of 'stuff' in the ground, virtually anywhere you dig is gonna have something - be it a coin, junk or whatever :sign13: So, that explains the finds. Think about this...if a dowsing rod GENUINELY worked, why does it not point to the exact location of the buried item instead of just the general area? Kinda like all those 'psychics' that speak in generalities like; "you've lost someone close to you recently", "I see you're unhappy with something in your life" :laughing7: If they really had the gift, they'd speak specifics, not general, vague nothings...like the dowsing rods

If YOU think it works however & it makes you happy, more power to you. But, this fish aint buying it :read2:
The rods themselves have nothing to do with it. Yes it is your muscles/nerves that make them cross it is your mind's eye that is the tool in this process. The rods or pendulum are just the indicator. You either have the gift or you don't. Science can not explain everything. Case in point the THEORY of evolution, science tells us that we and everything else evolved from some single cell organism (which formed by chance in the ocean) and evolved by macro mutations (small changes) into the complex beings we are today. Lets forget that 99% of all mutations are detrimental and just concentrate on the ones that help. How did this amoeba slowly over many thousands of years evolve eyes to see light that it had no way of knowing existed? A single cell org. has the equivalent complexity as a 747 jet and the chances of one forming by chance are about the same as a tornado blowing through a scrapyard and assembling a working plane. Oh and by the way this plane reproduces it's self!SCIENCE explains our existence this way. Compared to THAT dowsing seems easy to believe. You could take the best scientists in the world with unlimited money and resources and tell them to let us know when they can do one simple thing. Make an acorn from scratch. :laughing9:

When I was a kid, my grandfather taught me how to dowse. We did it with wire hangers and a willow branch. The rods definitely crossed and I was holding the rods at a down angle so the rods were working against gravity. My sister tried it and nothing. She was so pissed. Reading this thread brought back a great memory. I'll have to go home and see if it still works for me. I can understand people's skepticism. But to those who are skeptical and don't try it, you're just limiting your boundaries. I'm a software engineer by trade but I have to believe what I see with my own eyes.

They do work for finding water- i see guys use them all the time to find a place to put wells....For gold -not so sure?If they do i need some ;D

Fascinating subject. Isn't dowsing also refered to as Divining? Psychic abilities, clairvoyance and the paranormal are not generally accepted by the "scientific community". Neither is telepathy, ESP or remote viewing or psychometry. Does this mean then that none of these have any merit at all? Or just pure fantasy? Hmm........
