Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Hello everyone:

Call me Les.

For many years now, I have owned metal detectors. Right now I own four. All my life I have heard about dowsing but I wasn't really familiar with it from personal experience. In fact, I was somewhat of a skeptic about it.

A couple of years ago I was talking with my Rancher Cousin in southern Utah. He told me he had dowsed for water for his ranch. He told the driller where to drill and that they would hit water at about 70 feet. They hit moisture at 70’ and full flowing water at 90’. That was almost 20 years ago and that well is still flowing water today.

He explained it with such conviction and certainty that I became curious about dowsing. So I bought a couple of brass rods from the hardware store and made some dowsing rods. After all, the water tasted good too and I needed to find out for myself.

To my utmost astonishment and surprise, when my rods crossed, I found a metal target in the ground. I continued dowsing and found all kinds of things. Most were trash items with a few coins along the way. However, the undeniable change dowsing brought was the speed to an unseen target. Using only my metal detector, in most cases it would have taken and extremely long time to finally get the coil over the target, if indeed I happen to do that.

I have dowsed over 300 times now and have had phenomenal success in finding targets.

I first dowse to a target then when my rods cross, I pinpoint it with my metal detector. What I am saying is you really should try it for yourself to see how it works for you. Like myself, it could get you to targets much faster than trying to overlap a detector coil over a large area so as not to miss anything. Dowsing is simply another tool you can use.

Now, there are skeptics who will challenge you along the way and that's OK. Just remember, you would be doing it for yourself and no one else.

Below is a picture of my latest find that I found in my back yard. It's a 27” L X ½” D piece of scrap main power electrical line. It was about 45’ from where I started dowsing and about 1” deep in the ground. This find, being aluminum, in and of itself is not worth much, but like all other finds while dowsing, it is very significant in that it was found while I was dowsing.

I will be posting other finds as time goes on.

Fascinating subject. Isn't dowsing also refered to as Divining? Psychic abilities, clairvoyance and the paranormal are not generally accepted by the "scientific community". Neither is telepathy, ESP or remote viewing or psychometry. Does this mean then that none of these have any merit at all? Or just pure fantasy? Hmm........

The dowers have been asked to post their reasonable finds .But they will not i can post my finds

Folks: The reason dowsers fail in the Randi test is Randi insists the test be done without the ideomotor factor. That's like keeping the power switch on a metal Detector in the “OFF” position then trying to detect. If Randi put his money in a test where the dowser dictates ALL the rules, he would lose his money. But, he's not that careless with his money.

It's as simple as magic. Remember, Randi is a magician and a deceiver. It's through the slight of hand in magic that makes magic what it is. In his so called scientific test, the slight of hand is eliminating the ideomotor factor.

BTW, tinpan lives in Bandigo VIC Australia. Bandigo VIC Australia is the second largest gold field in Australia. It should come as no surprise to anyone that he finds as much gold as he does. They think there is as much gold, if not more still there than what was taken out in the 1800’s. If he lived where there is little or no gold, like where I do, he wouldn't be bragging so much about finding gold.

Sorry i didn,t need a md to find other relics and the towns name is Bendigo

Quoting tinpan, with whom I disagree on this particular post:

"Really ? A good mder doesn,t just rely on their md and never just wonders around. Specific location found by hard research . Random is a word for persons like you who knows nothing about mding." (by tinpan)

Research is good, especially if you're looking for specific types of finds. I'm an avid researcher. But research isn't necessary and isn't the ONLY WAY to detect. I made my best find of a silver and turquoise pendant when I was deliberately "wandering around" a big swath of beach helping to search for a stranger's lost ring. THE REASON METAL DETECTING IS SO ENJOYABLE IS THAT WE EACH CHOOSE OUR OWN STYLE! And each is free to alter their style depending on their current goals or merely how they feel on a given day! Fortunately for all of us, other than the rules of safety and law, there are no set rules to follow and no exam at the end of the semester either. Some want to hunt in a highly-focused manner and some don't. Guess what? Nobody is better than anybody else. Andi

You have eloquently summed everything up.......nice job! I don't think anyone could intelligently argue with anything you stated. :icon_thumleft:

So where in my fair and reasonable statement did i say i was better than anybody else .OWN STYLE adds up too what ? nothing just like BS.

Tinpan,
I hope you weren't answering to me on this........I was referring to you with what I said. It is you that was the voice of reason!

Folks, tinpan has gone from "finds" to "reasonable finds." Because he is losing, he is now trying to change the rules in the middle of the game. Sorry tinpan, the game is on and a find is a find no matter how you slice it.

BTW, those pictures he is showing, are not todays finds but finds from way back in time. How do we figure that?

Got two rusty dowsing finds to display. An engine spark plug and what looks like a buckle that might have been from an old harness of some kind. Along with the several loopholes through which straps went through, it has a prong on it to which a leather strap with holes in it fastened to. Don't know for sure.

I found both while dowsing today and that's no supposed to happen.

Odd, it is interesting how the sceptics seem to ignore my posts of proofs ??? ehhehehehheh leads one to believe that they can't discuss any thing against them so try to ignore them, which means that in effect they acknowedge them as being correct..

lets just all agree that were all a lil nuts. I mean we like digging around in the dirt on our days off. How many family members have to look at you like your crazy before you realize that you probably are? You were probably crazy before you started digging.

Heck, I'm so confused by who is saying what........I give up. Whoever said, " Everybody has their own style" is correct. I really don't give a big rat turd how you get your fun......if it works for you, so be it. I'll use my Fisher and have my fun and remain a skeptic on the rods. The rest of everyone is free to do their thing their way and have their fun. What's wrong with that?

I just went out and bought a set of rods the million dollars will be mine! $$$$

swr, any sceptic, or anyone for that matter. Just what would randy's group 'gain' from a successful demonstration of dowsing, compared to what they would lose?

Does anyone out there actually believe that they 'wouldn't' pad the test in order to make sure that it couldn't succeed?

sigh, so much for Ranchy's test.

Hi lowlife, do your due diligence on Mr. Randi He is a man of critical thinking. A man of science. So let me get this straight...

http://www.cfpf.org.uk/articles/background/nicholls.html
A Self-Confessed Liar
To be fair, he has never claimed to be anything other than a showman, best expressed by his own remark,

'I am a charlatan, a liar, a thief and a fake altogether.'

I'm a hardcore skeptic and member of Randi's forums. I think Randi's tests are on the up-and-up. That said, the targets of his challenges have changed from random persons to famous persons (Sylvia Browne, etc) and so have the rules. Current rules seem to be that a random person has to first be written up by a local newspaper for their fantastic paranormal gains, and only after that can they negotiate with JREF for a real experiment. Many (most) fail at the first, and at the second.

This isn't to say no "paranormal" techniques are valid. First, any paranormal (including dowsers) who actually found stuff would be reticent to be tested, because it would highlight them and (MKULTRA reminisence) they'd possibly be sequestered by the goverment. Second, and that made a profit from their paranormality would prefer to keep that profit on the down-low rather than broadcast their skills to the world and face a court battle.

If anyone here had telekinetic powers, so could influence the roulette wheel for millions of dollars, woulod you expose yourself to anyone (the media, Randi, etc), or would you stay quiet and profit?

Anyway to the topic, dowsing seems to have a lot of "woo-artists", who claim fantastic things but can't deliver according to Randi or any other study. Some dowsers seem to have untested good results, and are employed by governments/geologists/etc. Still, "psychics" are also occasionally employed by real police forces, and their track records are pretty awful.

As said though, whatever works for an individual, works. Dowse a great find, psychically find a great find, throw I Ching bones for a great find. As long as a great find is found, that's what's important. And even if an individual's mode of finding isn't correct in this Universe, if it compels him to keep detecing and perservering, it's at least a psychological benefit.

Has this ever happened to anyone while out detecting? Let's say you are out hunting in a large park or field, and as your hunting your mind keeps telling you to go to a certain spot or area, and quit doing the area you are currently detecting. You resist what your mind is telling you and keep hunting the area you are doing, you are not getting much, so you quit for the day. The next time you go to that park or field, you start in the area that your mind told you to go to in the first place, the last time you were there. Then you start finding all kinds of neat stuff........ I have done just that and now I listen to my inner voice from now on, ( I don't always find something there, But most of the time I do!) I believe this is somewhat like dousing, but your detector IS the rod.....NGE

good morning heepiepow: good presentation, but may I ask just how would the randy group profit 'IF' they accidentally encountered a true dowser, or other paranormal performer?

They lose $1,000,000 dollars, lose their site, platform, reputation, and status.

Now realistically, do you actually think that they would risk that with a valid unloaded test to gain what ?

Yes . Every time I hunted a certain cellar hole i could not get it out of my head that this small triangle of dirt where the foundation met the cellar steps held an old silver coin. I scanned it every trip to the site maybe 10 trips. It was loaded with metallic slag and I found about 20 hot rocks. Never any coin. My first hunt with my new 5" coil I made a b line to the spot and got the signal for this coin. I follow my instincts always now. It was too close to a stump to get picked up by my stock coil. I no longer get that feeling when I see that spot.

Yeah, I get that 'feeling' a lot. I'll get a solid foil signal that doesn't vary a bit and I think, "This just has to be a gold ring." So far, it has been 100% right......for my F75!

And, notgitenenny, that must be a really powerful machine you are using......don't think you ought to be using that 5" coil anymore.....I mean, it burned a hole right through that silver coin!

man.. a coin from 1785... i'd die if i found one of those

Well I read it all - still don't know if I believe in it or not, but I realize I do believe in a couple of things I can't see or prove. So I guess I'll just keep an open mind.
If in the meantime some folk are finding things with dowsing rods - well it isn't hurting me at all, and if others aren't - well I don't think that bothers me either.

So either way good luck and happy hunting to all, Nuggy.

I DO wish tinpan would give okiedowser the GPS on that red circle......
