Hey all! I decided to skip class Friday (weather was nice- and who knows how many more nice days are left!) and go detecting with the BuckleBoy and HB. The day started out a bit rough; it took us about 2 hours to get permission for a site, a school house deep in the woods. We were getting pretty cranky fighting all the brush and digging up lots of big iron, but BuckleBoy got an Indian Head penny and after about half an hour I got one too. HB found a jewlery piece, and I kept hunting around where I found my penny. Next thing I knew I got a great signal and dug a plug. Out popped a MORGAN DOLLAR!!!!! I couldn't believe it was real, but I was still shaking when I took it over to show the crew. We didn't find much after that, and moved to a new site where HB found his Indian Head. The finds were pretty thin at this second site, with only a tiny piece of harmonica reed, some bent-up brass, and a horse buckle recovered. I didn't care much, since I was still thinking about the MORGAN DOLLAR that I had just dug, but we ended up leaving after a few more hours. I still can't believe that I finally got my first silver! I guess I should skip class more often. :icon_sunny:

I thought BANNER as well, purely on condition & good recovery!

Nice BIG coin :).

Don't let the weather and ole BB distract you from your studies.

I know that thing had to blow your head phones off. That makes my first silver ( 41 Merc ) look pretty puny.
Congratulations. That looks like Banner Material to me.

a lot of firsts in one dig:

first silver
1800 coin
dollar coin.......

Dang it's just freakin nice!
Nice non dinging digging too.......

what's your machine you use? some details on the recovery?

That coin actually wasn't a superb signal, believe it or not. It was on its edge right next to the trunk of a shrub. I am really happy I didn't scratch it at all, but I usually dig pretty large plugs to avoid scratching or dinging any of my finds; the coin came up really easily though, in the first clod of dirt after I flipped up the plug. :icon_thumright:

Sadly, as Bigjohn835 noted, I did forsake my education (and my tuition cost!!), but I figure my only class that day was elementary astronomy. :tard: ;D

BTW, I use the Tesoro Silver U-Max, though I am thinking about getting a Tesoro Cibola. I tried out BonziBrandi's earlier in the week, and I think it is far superior. Maybe for my birthday. :icon_sunny:

Thanks again everyone!

Excellent finds. Especially that cart wheel. It's in great shape, and a New Orleans mint mark to boot. For a first one, you did A okay!

Hey diggergrl, that's a BEAUTIFUL find!!!! Way to go. And it's in beautiful shape too, very much like the 1921 Morgan I found last summer. Like it just dropped out of someone's pocket yesterday. Congrats a a great coin.

Congrats on one freakin' awesome find. Noticed your avatar. I myself have a black terror of my own! When she was adopted as a stray, it was a general consensus between the vet and myself that the elevator didn't go to the top floor. So now she is known as our "special" kitty. LOL
HH down in the south
