I thought when I dug this it was a piece of spanish silver but was not sure, so I posted it in the what is it forum and several members agree that is what it is, so it is a cool piece of history. Found it in a farm field where a one room school house used to be, hunted for 2.5 hours today, froze my butt off and no coins, tokens or buttons were found. Glad I found this!

Very nice slice of silver.

Yup, that is a cut Spanish silver! :headbang: Great find, Goes4ever! An early pioneer in Northwest Ohio needed some change, and that is what he got!

You are right, that is a great piece of history. Congrats on a super find. :hello2:

WTG nice one!

Still wanting my piece of spanish...maybe tomorrow...

Not a very clean cut, but it looks like a piece of 8 to me.

All right guys and girls, let's see who can match it up to a scan of the whole coin! Definitely looks to be from a piece of eight. Come on, it'll be more fun then your average jigsaw puzzle.
I could see me losing it in my pouch, did you know what it was when ya dug it?

when I dug it I "thought" that was a spanish silver piece so I put it in my little keeper bottle I have in my pouch

WOW - Awesome job bro, your killin out there in the Buckeye!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

anyone have an idea when this would have been used in Ohio, timeframe?

Nice little slice! Due to being cut was most likely used up until the 1800s...WAG really!

The 8-reales ('piece of eight') was legal tender in the United States until an Act of the United States Congress discontinued the practice in 1857.
