I got out and hit a house that I have detected a few years ago. My friend calls it BM (before minelab) he also likes to hit places we have done before.
Anyway I got a few wheaties and a pocket watch. It was possibly the best pocket watch I have ever found, even in its crusty state. The watch was every bit of 12-14 inches down. We could tell that the yard had been filled and turned as there were several pennies at 5 inches depth. The wheaties were 7-8 inches.
The silver dime I got at a park that is less than 5 years old. I got a quarter reading on my Explorer and expected a new quarter. When I got a dime right on the surface in the grass I was surprised but I didn't give it a second look. When I got back to the Jeep I noticed I had a silver dime in my pouch. That was very odd.
The irony of it all was that I have just posted a question about probes in the metal detecting forum. I explained that I never run into old coins near the surface at anyplace I need to use a probe.
Oh well, its silver.
