Anyone have any idea what this is?

Found on the beach in Santa Cruz. Size is 8" x almost 3" x almost 2". It looks like something was attached to it at the top and broke off or something. Or did the stone form around it? Maybe a rail road spike?

Made of stone. No identifying marks on it. I can't find anything like it on the internet.

Anyone?

It sure looks like a pestel, for grinding acorn meal in a stone mortar, but because of the hollow end, I don't think it is. Did you find it in among a lot of beach cobbles, or was it off by itself?

On a pile of beach rocks. there was a lot of beach glass on this beach probably due to recent storm activity. Lots of big piles of rocks, etc.

I go along with it not being a pestel, maybe some type of sea shell that has been covered with a stone matrix:dontknow:It still is a cool find.
