I’m hoping this is an arrowhead or scraper of some kind. One side is flat or even a little concave while the other is a more rounded and comes down to a sharp edge one one side. The other edge is flat. I found it by the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta, Ga. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
just looks like a rock to me . I don't see any man made shaping to it.keep looking , it took me years to find a native American site but I have now found 13 points and half a dozen suspected samples and hundreds of quarts knapping flakes. you'll know the real deal when you find it . good luck and welcome to the site..
We often call those geofacts. It definitely has the shape of a point, but, as Suemon said, there is no evidence of it having been worked by a person. Good eye though! If you have the time, visit a local museum and look at some points / tools made from local source material. A lot of times (especially when field walking) you will spot the material before the shape. Welcome.
It’s a natural rock. However, don’t let that stop you from looking. There’s still a lot of artifacts waiting to be found out there. Stay safe & good luck!
I agree with others.
The stone has a crystalline appearance,
and is a laminate, so would not flake controllabley,
but would massively spall-off when clobbered...!
Look for chert, basalt, obsidian varieties, flint, stuff that is glassy, fine grained.
Keep looking, and enjoy the hunt!
