The legend is, if you say(type) Bill's name three times he will mystically appear on site.

But it looks like Bill may still be out in the desert taking advantage of the weather before it heats up too much. I know his last post said he was going out to remove some rocks that were covering up something, hope he's OK.

Once more; ..."Riley"..."Riley"..."Riley" :hello:

Hi guys no hiatus in the desert. My birthday was 4/2. The day before I lost one of my twin Grandsons. Horrible birthday.
Needless to say I've been a little predisposed as I'm a little preccupied. His name was Robert we called him Robby.
I still have the other twin to worry about. Robby was 35 weeks 5 pounds. His Brother Ferris is still alive but has us worried.

Thanks to all of you I really appreciate your condolences. We're still in sort of a shock about it. The doctor called it a "Cord Incident".
My wife and I are going up to our cabin next week for some reflection and relaxation. While we were up in Phoenix with our Daughter, and because Tucson has such high used car prices, I decided to cheer up my wife and buy her a newer car. She really wanted a Cadillac so we bought an Escalade ESV, used of course. Since she felt bad about her getting a newer car and I still had my old Excursion, she wanted me to get what I wanted so I checked it out and found out Tucson had the best deal on one so we headed back there.

I've been looking for another Viagra car for a while. So I ended up buying an SRT8 Challenger, red of course, with a six speed manual.
I named it "Robby" in the little guys honor. Robby can go 180 miles an hour and he'll be with me for a long time.

So sorry to hear that, Bill. Condolences to you and your family.
I asked my mom to give Robby a hug up in heaven.

Bill,

My condolences for your loss.

Mike

Bill,
My condolences for your loss.

Thanks again guys.

Life is full of death so we put on our big boy pants in public and carry on with it. In private we all feel loss and pain that only father time and reflection can heal. The fact I never even got to hold the little guys hand is the hardest part. It warms my soul to know that even people that I don't see eye to eye with can give me condolences on here. I guess people can come togther for each other in times of need. It shows the Character of those on here and makes me feel proud to have known you all. Arguing aside, I think anyone of you would make a fine partner in the mountains and make a true loyal friend. It's all about watching out for each other. People need support when they experince death first hand. With out it we have no civil or moral society. Since death is well known to me I'll get get over it a lot sooner then most. Death weighs heavy on your soul. It becomes part of of life. We all wish it didn't but as time goes by people die.

It's just the little guys that are so tragic when they go. Never get to be a toddler no first birthday no baseball no toys. No long life. Tragic....

Hal,

The circle stone enigma is one worth looking into. Could that be the Indian Circle of stones Jacob told us about?

Well said Bill. Empathy for others, even as you've said, "those we've never met eye-to-eye", is one of the qualities that bond us as humans. I'm sure your words here about the tragic loss of your infant Grandson have touched each of us.
Again, you have my, and I know all your other 'unseen friends', most sincere and heartfelt condolences for your loss.
May that time and reflection you spoke of heal your pain.

Take care,

Hal,

[This name is suggested to replace" "Mormon Flat," which is objected to by many. "Tzlariapah" is an Apache word meaning "Big Bend of a Riv- ER," also "Plenty of "water." (See Bourke's article," just mentioned.) For ease of pronunciation, the word" is spelled" "Zlanapah." It is also found in some words spelled "Slanapa." At "Mormon Flat" the Salt River makes a great bend and broadens out, so that the suggested name is appropriate. The term "Mormon" is said to be distasteful to the Latter Day Saints when applied to their church or its members. It is certainly no very attractive title to give one of the most beautiful spots on the Apache Trail, one which is to be widely advertised. "Zlanapah Flat" has more the Apache flavor. "Mormon Flat" received its name because a party of early "Mormon" emigrants were massacred here in camp by a band of Apaches.]

Having read a good deal concerning the Mormon people coming to Arizona, I don't recall any massacre by Apache or anyone else. Joseph Smith originally named his church "The Church of Christ" which, I believe was what he said God had commanded him to name it. Later on, it became " the "Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints. Eventually, the church dropped "Christ" from the name.

I'm not sure that the Mormon emigrants ever came through Mormon Flats. There are many journals describing there journeys to Arizona, so if they came across the Salt there, it should be written........somewhere. The Mormon settlements are integral in the history of Arizona. Personally, I would not like to see that history changed.

Take care,

Joe

I think that Zlanapah was known to Mexican prospectors as El Campo Tortilla. This is the "Local usage" name listed on the USGB card for Tortilla Creek. Tortilla Creek once flowed into the Salt at Zlanapah "the bend" so, I don't think that it is a stretch to write that at the terminus of Tortilla Creek was a camp.

I also believe that the name change to Tortilla Flat was an easy one and that it describes a much smaller area today.

Hal,

You said "Tortilla once flowed into the Salt" which gives me the impression that Tortilla was much bigger than it used to be. Is that true?

If so, can I ask where you found this information? Just curious.

Cheers to that cactusjumper.
No, not Tom. Remember, there are two names on the cover of that book.

Hal,

Never met Tom's partner, but I assume that time would be well spent as well. Not sure he has the same background and experience as Tom.

Good luck,

Joe

------

Come on Joe, we all know there's no such thing! :laughing7:

Earnie,

Quite true.

After my two brain bleeds, I was in to see the Neurosurgeon who caused my brain to shrink by opening the valve too much, and told him "Just think how magnificent my brain must have been before you shrank it".

Good luck,

Joe Ribaudo
