Tag and button

Im looking for the date of these items and what the tag might have been used for. These items were found by a school form the thirties, but I have found older coins and a crotal bell there as well.

The tag is thinner than a penny but has the same diameter and has the number 23 stamped on it with an ornate dot pattern going around the edges on both sides. The other side has some faint lines that are no definable pattern and mostly smooth.

The button has two holes, is made of copper but the other side has iron caked in it.

Really tough to tell with those blurry pictures.
But I would say tag with the hole is some kind of pickers tag or tool check.
The button is anyones guess... modern two piece iron backed button.

Better pictures is a must !!
