Wow pnc has a coin machine it ate up $2400 of halfs in ?? 3 min.. No bags it has a large box they use a hand truck.The top has a large hole with a cover.

Be careful...that machine will overfill and jam up. It has no shut off when it is full...only after you stop and get your receipt. Always listen closely for the sound of the coin dropping all the way down into the bucket. It causes quite a mess when overfilled. That bucket holds 40k to 50k coins and it sure does tear through them quickly.

I don't think these machines have bags - none that the banks sell anyway. The banks never handle the coins at all. The guys who service the machines p/u the coins and take 'em away.

I talked to a local bank that has a machine. The machine they have doesn't sort coin just counts them.

The only reason I know this is I asked to buy the bag.

No bags...just a cube shaped box with wheels about 2 feet by 2 feet. Has a extendable handle that turns it into hand truck to roll it away.

TCF in Michigan has a similar machine, in fact they are my only dump bank (several branches) but they do jam if you go too fast. It takes 20 minutes to dump 1k in halves.

Are you in PA? I dumped $3,000 in halves tonight at the PNC machine and it took about 8 minutes. I checked the reject slot, and someone had left in coins and lots of tokens with an angel on them (church tokens?), so my deposit was $3,001.10. The overage will start to make up for when I got shorted $12 on dimes a couple of weeks ago.

I use them too.
I find that a machine that is running good will do $120 a minut in Halves. they have 2 kinds of hoppers on these as well depending on the branch. around my house both have a tray that feeds into a either a vibrating hopper into a spinning disk that feeds the coins into a counter, and the the other is a tumbler into a spinning disk

is it a tall, narrow machine, where you click a start spinner button, lift the lid, and slide coins into the holes? I have used a coin machine like that at PNC bank before, I am considering an account with them

AMEN on the PNC coin sorter!

I started getting and dumping coins at PNC three weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised at how FAST that devil of a counter is. Plus, the employees don't have to lug bags, boxes or anything else around. On my first visit I asked a teller if they had to lift coins out of the counter. She said they didn't touch the coins. If/when the box fills up they just roll it to the vault and replace it with a new one. With that reply I decided THIS IS MY DUMP BANK!

When I wander into PNC with my wheeled suitcase full of dump coins I chuckle as heads turn. Yesterday I watched a customer out of the corner of my eye as I wheeled from the door to the counter and started dumping coins. She tracked me from the time I came in with a look of, "What on earth is this guy up to?" After she left and I took the counter receipt to the same teller the woman had used we had a good laugh. The teller said the woman initially was afraid I was going to rob the bank.

Wow! Must be nice. PNC's in my neck of the woods do not have coin counters. Let's hope they add them soon...

For real folks- LIMIT YOUR DUMPS!
I have the exact same machine at a local PNC. The manager and I talked and he is worried about the wear the halves put on the machine. He has noticed an increase and has begun to talk to other managers to limit this(limit the buying, and dumping). He says the machine(although new) is needing service more and more because of the halves! Everything in limits folks!

Stop abusing a good thing! If I ever use that machine, I use it maybe every 2-3 weeks for $1,000

I've been dumping 1K a week ($500) at a time into an NF Strings machine and it runs pretty well unless there is a half in there with nicks, then it jams up.

Like N8 said, I'm worried I'm going to wear out my welcome here because someone always has to come over with a key and help me out. They are always friendly about it, but I don't want my halves to cause them problems with the machine.
