As far as a number it as stated in my Second post is ONE! Maybe you should read the rest of the thread before you jump and try to prove a ridiculous point. The slippery slope argument is VALID your saying it is not does not make it so. You do look very foolish I hope you know.

My single shot muzzle loader is an assault weapon IF I find need to assault people . Watch Mel Gibson go to work in The Patriot . Them Cherokee tomahawks are pretty good assault weapons as well in the hands of a committed individual .
Nobody 'took you to raise' to the point that your personal safety is the responsibility of anyone but YOU .
Call a police officer any time you feel threatened . I'm sure one of the over worked minions will respond in time to record the crime scene . They have no mandate to hold your hand and protect you as an individual . That's the province of private security firms that protect celebrities and politicians .

People want to quickly blame 'the gun' or 'the alcohol' or 'the hammer' or 'the knife'--- how about addressing the mental illness issue? Otherwise you will have to ban anything and everything that can be used as a weapon.


The Bath School disaster is the name given to three bombings in Bath Township, Michigan, on May 18, 1927, which killed 38elementary school children, two teachers, and four other adults; at least 58 people were injured. The perpetrator first killed his wife, and committed suicide with his last explosion. Most of the victims were children in the second to sixth grades (7–14 years of age[SUP][1][/SUP]) attending the Bath Consolidated School. Their deaths constitute the deadliest mass murder in a school in United States history.[SUP][2][/SUP]
The bomber was the school board treasurer Andrew Kehoe, age 55, who was angry after being defeated in the spring 1926 election for township clerk. He was thought to have planned his "murderous revenge" after that public defeat; he had a reputation for difficulty on the school board and in personal dealings. For much of the next year, a neighbor noticed Kehoe had stopped working on his farm and thought he might be planning suicide. During that period, Kehoe carried out steps in his plan to destroy the school and his farm by purchasing and hiding explosives.
Kehoe's wife was ill with tuberculosis and he had stopped making mortgage payments; he was under pressure for foreclosure. Some time between May 16 and the morning of May 18, 1927, Kehoe murdered his wife by hitting her on the head. On the morning of May 18 about 8:45, he exploded incendiary devices in his house and farm buildings, setting them on fire and destroying them.
Almost simultaneously, an explosion devastated the north wing of the school building, killing many schoolchildren. Kehoe had used a timed detonator to ignite dynamite and hundreds of pounds of incendiary pyrotol, which he had secretly planted inside the school over the course of many months. As rescuers gathered at the school, Kehoe drove up, stopped, and used a rifle to detonate dynamite inside hisshrapnel-filled truck, killing himself, the school superintendent, and several others nearby, as well as injuring more bystanders. During rescue efforts at the school, searchers discovered an additional 500 pounds (230 kg) of unexploded dynamite and pyrotol connected to a timing device and planted throughout the basement of the south wing. Kehoe had apparently intended to blow up and destroy the entire school.

M 16 military weapon --- a 223 caliber assult weapon = a fully automatic weapon --it relaods and shoots non stop as long as you hold the tigger down or until the magazine runs out of ammo which ever occurs first.

AR 15 a a 223 caliber civilian type semi automatic weapon * it is NOT A "FULLY AUTOMATIC" military type assult weapon although it might "appear" to look similar to a M 16 looks wize ITS IS DIFFERANT -- it is one shot per tigger pull type of weapon-- each round fired requires you to pull the trigger --it self reloads after each shot until its magazine is empty *

magazines for both the M16 and AR15 come in 30 round versions --the M16 is for combat --the AR15 is for target shooting --many states limit semi automatic self reloading centerfire rifle magazines to 5 rounds for hunting *

hi cap magazine bans just mean that the "bad folks" will just have to carry more low cap magazines and have to change out more often -- thats not much of a fix now is it?

Cris. I know this is getting old but your argument is baseless Tanks mortars and and bombs (Tanonite) are owned by individuals It's rather easy if you have the $$ and I'm talking completely legal. The other thing about a assault rifle, I own a 44 ww2 5 shot paratrooper This is and was a military rifle so I guess it's in the hands of people who have no idea what a weapon should be called except to instill panic to the ignorant. It's amazing how things like this tragedy grab the attention of the public, I think we could pay off the national debt if public executions were on Pay per view T.V.

Onfire: I think you raised some intelligent points. You know a lot more about guns then I do. I am sure that the government would make mistakes in new legislation...they make mistakes all the time. However,
1. I am not advocating banning sports and weapons for self defense. I think those are a necessary part of our freedom.
2. Lets assume the government bans what they percieve to be assault rifles. Lets assume they screw it up and some people lose guns or don't have access to guns that would not have been problematic. Lets assume that mass murders will continue to happen anyway. Finally, let us assume that the number of mass murders will decrease. No one can say how much it would decrease but it is safe to say that it would decrease it somewhat. If stricter gun laws could have prevented the death of 10 of those 20 kids, would it be worth it? Would you voluntary surrender your 44 ww2 5 shot paratrooper if it meant 10 of those kids would not die?
3. Obviously, it is not your gun that killed them. I am sure you take good care in securing your guns. But, the unarguable fact remains that limiting access to guns will decrease gun related deaths. The question I have is...when does it become worth it to you?
4. The answer for you may be never. Evil atrocities have always been done by man against man and they always will be. We have to live in a society with some sort of laws. Any society with laws by design limits personal liberties. We make sacrifices to our personal liberties in our every day lives. Is this too big a sacrifice to make?

what confuses me they say making it harder to obtain guns will slow gun violence.
NO making it harder will increase the number who will purchase illegal guns,
officially making them Criminals. so crimes & Criminals increase.

they say increasing sentences for owning an Illegal gun, or lying to obtain one
will decrease problems. NO these people will just fight harder not to be caught,
by taking those who threaten to arrest them & bystanders out along with themselves.

Just like DUI laws. if you run someone down after a drink, it is now better to Hit & Run
sober up & turn yourself in later then admit alcohol or drugs in your system at the time.

increased Federal gun laws will make it better to go postal if threatened with arrest.

No I still don't feel I need guns , maybe because there are allot out there in the right hands.
this may change if 50% or more of these law abiding citizens all of a sudden are declared criminals
because of refusal to turn in a legally purchased and paid for weapon.

there are legal hunting uses for high cap 223 cal -AR15 type weapons --one of which is HOG HUNTING * hogs often run in large packs --they are a very dangerous game and have been known to attack people --- they are large powerful and highly destructive to farmers crops and livestock as well -- especially smaller young animals -like goats for exsample

when one has to thin out a herd and finally tracks them down there may be multiple targets that need to be rapidly shot

Jeff: You are right. Controlling guns will not stop criminals. I completely agree, that is why I think we should never ban all guns. Murders will continue to happen. However, the boy that killed those 26 people was not a criminal. His mom owned the gun and she was not a criminal. Might he have murdered all of those kids anyways? Nobody knows the answer; however, you cannot deny that if his mom had not owned the gun it would have been harder for him to obtain one. Maybe he would have used a handgun and not killed as many kids.

Again, we live in a society where we compromise our personal liberties every day in various forms. You can't drive as fast as you want to. You can't metal detect where ever you want to. You can't talk about politics on TNET. When you signed up for TNET you agreed to forgo your right to freedom of speech. Why is nobody answering my question?

When does it become worth it to YOU to place limits on these types of guns?

Like I said, for you it may be never. For me...it is Sandy Hook. Nobody holds the key to knowledge, this will happen again. The only guarantee that we have is that the chances of it happening do not decrease if we do nothing. Is it possible the chances could increase by limiting gun use? Sure, anything is possible, but I doubt it.

EDIT: Also, a qualification to be an "assault weapon" is that the weapon is fully automatic... Which are for the most part banned to the average person. So you are talking about banning sporting rifles, which indeed is a slippery slope
