Why would she ever admit to something she said 30 years ago? When she could have took the presidents lead with:: I can't remember, I don't know. Deny everything, Do the 5th thing. Or so what!
Before you know it you won't be able talk about Fried Chicken, greens, cotton, chains, or what's that guy with a javelin doing? Someone will take this to the raciest level.

What I question is that this was something she admitted to in a sworn deposition, under oath for pending court proceedings. Why was it released, and made public, as I understand the trail is still going on? Someone has an axe to grind, and it's going to ruin someone. I can conceive that you would be hard pressed to find someone from the South who HASN'T misspoke at any time in their life.

Here is the complaint that was filed against Paula Deen Enterprises etc. All events occurred in 2010 and before.

My unofficial summary of Paula's deposition:
1. She used racial slurs when re-telling non-politically correct jokes that she has heard.
2. She used the N-word when she was robbed at gunpoint in a bank many years ago.
3. She wanted to have a pre-civil war era, southern plantation themed wedding for her brother.
4. She has a very large bathroom that has chairs and a couch in it and talks with people there. (?)
5. She does not deal with the day to day running of Uncle Bubba's Seafood and Oyster House, and had not been there since the opening year.
6. She loves her brother.

My unofficial summary of the original complaint:
There are too many to list, issues of salary disparity, racial slurs, sexual harassment in varying forms, and drinking on the job, theft, possible embezzlement and no HR department. Sounds like a bad place to work if its true.

even #4 I believe most old women & even some men, live to gossip about each other .

The complaint, I read that too, looks like they just went under the umbrella of Paula Deen Enterprises then the restaurant and then Bubba Heirs.
All the complaints that I read really apply to Bubba Heirs and how he ran his restaurant where she has a financial interest.

Bubba Heirs is accused to taking money from the restaurant, not by Deen but by the former general manager who is the plaintiff.

Paula Deen Enterprises has the deepest pocket, well she did before 10 of her sponsors started to drop her.

As for book sales her multiple cookbook deal has been cancelled even though Amazon had the 1st one listed as #1 pre-ordered book for fall.
About the HR issue: Someone, I was not clear who, with the company Paula Deen or Uncle Bubbas, to hire a consultant that there were problems with the business and they did not follow the advice that they had paid for.

Jeff I agree with you. No crimes committed. I think that it speaks to her character that she could have lied, or declined to answer. So many people do. She didn't.
This backlash, multiple sponsors dropping her endorsements, seems out of proportion to what I found in the deposition. That's why I decided to research more on my own.

I feel that she is being blamed by her sponsors for separate actions of her brother.

When I read about the bathroom meeting thing I thought of 'King of the Hill' where Mr. Strickland always had staff meetings with the door open while he was on 'the throne'. Deen's lawyers made sure that she clarified that she did have a separate seating area in her bathroom. lol

I agree that slur certainly was not censored by any of the news that I saw.
I actually wrote to the networks and have not heard back, I didn't really think I would.
My letter said that if they were really interested in stopping racism then they needed to censor/beep ALL racial slurs or NONE of them.

Need to do a thorough background check on anyone who promotes this attack on her.

As a wise man once said: "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

The phrase "without sin" meaning he who has never done anything wrong - whether on purpose or accidentally.

The word "sin" is of Greek origin. Used in archery, it meant falling short of the target or "mark" - where hitting the mark was a perfect shot.

Therefore, whomever has been less than perfect has no place in condemning Paula Dean for anything she may have done that harmed no one else. I think we can assume that would preclude the media from condemning her. Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, et al would also be included along with what's his name or anyone else.

Why does "I'm sorry" not work for anyone who isn't a minority?

Once again I lay a lot of blame to the media. They are the biggest perpetrators of any smear campaign throughout history. I have been following this story even though I'm not a fan of Paula Deen's ahem... " cuisine." I think Food Network has been trying since last years Weight Watchers debacle to give her the boot where they claimed she hid the fact that she had type 2 diabetes from her fans and the public while promoting unhealthy eating on her show.I say its nobody's business if she was secretly doing WW to get healthy herself after health scares and if you're too dumb to know that eating Krispy Kreme bread pudding after a meal of fried Mac and cheese is bad for you then " bless your little pea pickin' heart!" This " lynching" if you will from Food Network s just a front to give her the boot and an embarrassment ,it backfired on them and Paula is getting a lot of support.Love this cartoon below though,this says it all for me.

First thing I noticed in all of her whining apologies is she didn't use the term "y'all" even one time. On her show it's every other word out of her mouth.
I'm willing to bet we have ALL used the forbidden "N" word during our lifetime. I'd use it now but my post would be deleted. It's just too scary for some to hear or read. I'm also willing to bet that Obama himself has used racist terms while climbing his ladder to stardom. I'm sure everyone at ACORN has used racial terms also. My guess would be that only those doped up on pot, hugging trees and praying for the spotted owl MAY not have used a racial term in a negative way.
When we moved to NYC while I was in high school (1963-1964) I was bused to a school that was over 90% black and the rest were mainly Puerto Ricans. We moved in the middle of the school. I had to introduce myself to my biology class and sit at the only empty desk in the middle of the classroom. After I sat down and the black teacher turned to the chalkboard, I was poked fairly hard in the side. I turned to see a bunch of black student staring at me and one of them quietly asked, "I bet you call us N's too don't you?". I thought for a moment and responded with, "Doesn't everyone?". They got a big kick out of that and I was never bothered again. Indians don't like the term "Squaw" either but we have government maps showing all the places with the word squaw in them. We need to all just get over it y'all!

There are many people who will say they never used that word. Maybe in a insulting way But there was a time when even chewing tobacco had the n word in it. Then they changed it to BIGGER HAIR. So if you chewed how did you order it?Without saying it?
Just think how the world has changed Did it start when some nice old lady said I don't want to ride in the back of the bus? Because now they all ride back there so they can intimidate the ones in the front of it.
