This Coin Capped My Day

camb1 · Dec 30, 2011

Went out today with a few of my detecting buddies. I gave them a chance at my old ghost town. We detected for several hours with no luck at all. I decided to go up to the higher ground to a old homesite where we have found some good finds. One buddy followed me up. Within 45 minutes I got a very nice silver tone on my Explorer SE. I dug the hole and got out my probe. To the side of the hole I could see a coin. At first I thought I had dug another reale, but soon noticed it was a 1827 Capped Dime. I jumped up and let out a yell that got my buddies attention. LOL. I then went over to show it to my other 2 buddies and found out that one had also found a nice 1829 Large Cent. Here is my find of the day.

Thanks Minelab for such great detectors.

That's awesome Camb! You will have a hard time finding an older US silver than that. Great job.

Anything capped bust is a real treat. I found my one and only capped bust dime last year. It's probably more beat than yours and has a hole, but it's capped bust! Congrats.

Thanks, this is my oldest US coin. I have found older Reales. When are we going out swinging?
