Corundum is ruby and sapphires, 9 on mohrs scale. I have no clue about the hardness kits.
You were the one said it was a 9, how did you figure that out?
I thought it kinda looked like fire opal or glass. Also, I'm no rock eggspurt, I just like 'em.
Perhaps some of the better versed will know more and can chime in for ya. Where'd you find it?

It will scratch anything I put it against. I believe it even scored a dimond. Could it be a red diamond. Oh and I has tumbled down a creek so glass would of shattered I think. If anyone can help me out I would gladly give a % if it is ruby or dimond. Is there any other tests I can do besides electron micro.. is spacific gravity a good acurate way to tell?

Looks like part of a boule of synthetic ruby. Can't see any cleavage, so no diamond.

Just saw your second question, yes specific gravity would aid in identification. :)

What really makes me look strange is the other side you didn't take pictures of.
I've never seen an alluvial rock look like that, kinda irritates me.

Not sure what u mean? What should I look 4? The other side is very cylindrical and rounded but not perfectly. Almost like half of it was imbedded in something...

Difficult to put it in words, maybe it is the smoothness of the cylindrical part. But something irritates me.
