Three Sites Over Three Days!

Well, the finds weren’t spectacular, but they were interesting! Let me preface this post by saying… these are all sites I’ve hit in the past and this was my final attempt to ‘hoover’ up anything non-ferrous prior to the planting. My first site hunt was on Saturday morning. This is a site that archeologists dug last summer, I started detecting it as soon as the ground thawed in April. This site produced the mate to a suspender buckle that I found in April. I posted a pic of the 'restored' buckle next to the 'un-restored' example. I also found what I think might be a very decorative gold-plated match holder and a ‘quarter size’ concave, tombac disc. I'm not sure what this disc is, as there’s no sign of an attachment on the back?

The second site I hit on Sunday morning. This is a site I first detected in 2015 and has produced lots of pre-1900 coins and even a ladies gold wedding band dated c1815. All I found here on Sunday was the aluminum ‘Greek Key’ thimble.

My third site I hit yesterday morning; it produced a couple of cool ‘eyeball finds’ but not much else. I found the 1930 'Buffalo Nickel', a cut glass cruet stopper, the ceramic base to a figurine and the 'Dunlop' Badge here.

Thanks very much for your post Bob. I definitely think the field I hit yesterday has more to produce.
Unfortunately, it's very trashy being located so close to a c1890 farmhouse, now torn down for land development.

Wow. Neat site..

Not saying it is by any means...But look up vintage needle cases.
To get enough length on the case you recovered it would need a decent length top ,or top and bottom.
(The thimble brought such to mind.)

I hear you about always wanting to find coins, unfortunately, here in the north we rarely cached our coins.
The banks here in Canada were relatively stable and trusted in the 19thc.

I equate detecting it to playing golf... you hit one good shot and it keeps you going back.

I'm debating whether I should attempt to heat it up and attempt to make it round again?
Any experience with something like that?

A friend recommended that I should look up 'annealing'.

"Annealing, in metallurgy and materials science, is a heat treatment that alters the physical and sometimes chemical properties of a material to increase its ductility and reduce its hardness, making it more workable. It involves heating a material above its recrystallization temperature, maintaining a suitable temperature for a suitable amount of time, and then cooling. With knowledge of the composition and phase diagram, heat treatment can be used to adjust between harder and more brittle, to softer and more ductile. In the cases of copper, steel, silver, and brass, this process is performed by heating the material (generally until glowing) for a while and then slowly letting it cool to room temperature in still air. Copper, silver and brass can be cooled slowly in air, or quickly by quenching in water, unlike ferrous metals, such as steel, which must be cooled slowly to anneal. In this fashion, the metal is softened and prepared for further work such as shaping, stamping, or forming."

Great advice 'WP', thank you for this.
I already found a decorative needle case on this site, (see in a previous post).
The gauge on the brass is fairly heavy on this piece, this is why I'm thinking 'match holder'.

What I would like to know is what date you think it might be from?

That's a beautiful one WP.
I'm only guessing the example I found is actually a match holder.
It has been squished by the weight of the soil and the cows for years while this was a cow pasture.
