todays 2 loomis boxes

today's 2 loomis boxes

were both skunks. did see something new today that i have not seen before. one of the loomis boxes contained rolls like i get in brinks boxes and each one had a small cut down the side of the roll and had been taped back over. what's up with that? i have heard of others getting boxes like this but this was a first for me.
someone must have taken a razor knife and cut the rolls and after they did an edge search they taped the roll back closed and took the rolls back to the bank. what a s&%TY way to edge search. i hope that nobody on this forum did that.

wow thats crappy. was the seal on the box intact when you got them? I never take boxes where the big brown packaging tape seal isnt intact.

The teller at my banks always check to see if the factory wrap is open on top and if it is they have to send it back, maybe someone was pulling a fast one by the tellers with the tape. sorry to hear that sucks !!!

That's a fairly common teller trick. Slit open the roll, edge search for silver, then tape it back closed.

my boxes have never been opened before I got them, if they were opened I wouldn't even buy them. I doubt it was a teller trick, unless that branch orders boxes every week just to have them. Silvercop, was the tape on the box already cut before you got it?

both loomis boxes were intact without any sign of tampering or opening. my theory is someone got a brinks box and cut the rolls to search them and taped them back up and took them into a bank to dump them. the bank sends the rolls back to loomis and loomis does not unrap them and just places them in a loomis box.
i have two issues with this
1) who ever searched this way and took them back
2) loomis not unrapping them to verify the rolls were not short, and putting the brinks rolls into a loomis box.

if this is the new trend in my area i will just do this myself. easy to buy things with the rolls already wrapped (taped back together) and can spread them around to different banks to dump.
i think the hobby has reached a new low. the markings are bad enough now this.
one other thought. if they were loomis rolls in a loomis box i would suspect someone at loomis of searching the rolls this way. with silver near it's all time high i guess it is to be expected.

I had that happen a while back--well sort of. There is a bank I order from every now and then as my job limits my ability to hunt outside my own local area. If I have a day off during the week, I call in advance and I generally pick up 5-6 boxes at an out of town bank. I call it my "extra" bank when I have "extra" time on my hands.

On one occassion I had what I thought was a sealed box. The type of box that is longated. When I opened the box it was filled with brown crimped wrappers--not the closely sealed wrappers that I was use to.

Needless to say, they were someone's dumps--but they missed the rim on one 40%. What eeked me the most is that the box appeared to be sealed by glue. Guess those boxes were "re-glued."

Cop, I agree. People shouldn't search like that. And loomis really shouldn't put those back in boxes and send them out. They should be dumped, sorted, and re-rolled to make sure the count is right. That's really surprising that they did that, but if the boxes weren't tampered with than that has to be what happened. I'd almost wanna say something to your bank about it, but it probably wouldn't do any good. If loomis is doing that, they probably wouldn't care if a bank called them out on it.

i am good friends with the vault teller at this bank that gets the loomis boxes. i went to high school with her. she told me a few months back that one of the loomis employees said he was getting tired of hauling all these halves around. he said something like every stop has boxes of halves going in or bags or boxes going out. guess everyone is trying to cash in now since it is so high.
i think that loomis is trying to cut corners. guess they are tired of us all. i always thought it would be the banks that would find a way to discourage hunting but this by loomis has really got me considering taking a break for a while. hope this was just a fluke and wont start happening frequently

I see those all the time, but not in a sealed box. On the other hand I do see searched rolls with one end folded over repacked and sealed. At least one in ten Brinks boxes are like this.

Hey SC - that is a bummer. If it continues have your friend the vault teller let them know that you are getting tampered rolls, maybe it will help. Glad to see you are still in the game. With this price spike it does lower the cost of searching

I agree. I bet these rolls were searched and then dumped as rolls back to another bank. Loomis just reboxed them.

I've been getting boxes that appear that the end has been opened, and then rerolled. The funny thing is that the absolute best box I ever got had 7 keepers, and the rolls looked like like this.

I've dumped a few rolls here and there, but I'd never dump a full box of rolled like that!!!!!

Not me but ive gotten entire boxes like that. I know there is a guy who does that and dumps at a boa west of atlanta. About 4k a week. What is funny is ive pulled a couple hundred silvers from there in the last 2 years asking for cwr only.

whoever did it did not miss any this time but i bet he/she misses several searching this way especially the 40% halves. i have had several 40% halves that i know could have slipped by a searcher using this method.
