Took a Beating Today. Updated..

I think this is the first post I have ever done were none of the finds are mine :'(

but I just had to show you what my detecting buddie Michael found today

A Medieval Silver Cross

this is a quite a Rare find, you don't often see personnel Ancient Jewelry, and Religious at that :notworthy:

...I would date this at between 1300-1500.

The loss would have been quite considerable for the owner, there's a decent amount of Silver gone into this piece, he also managed 2 hammered and a nice Silver cuff....a right good beating for me :laughing9:

Those are incredible finds! Can you give us any insight on the symbols on the arms of the cross?

The silver cuff in itself is quite fine--not to mention the bird band With The Bird Still Attached.

I guess you noticed the letters on each arm, wonder what they stand for :icon_scratch:

I see two 'alpha's but no omega :icon_scratch:

The cross is a stunner :notworthy:

It's really looks crude and early medieval. Maybe its owner lost this cross along with his/her life. I always think of that possibility when people find very old valuable things.

Will he be able to keep the cross?
God, do I love your laws of detecting.
If it's considered a "treasure", you have the great feeling knowing that you dug something special.
If not, sometimes even better.
