Kregger, thanks . i looked at the bugs in formation and see it . it just seemed like it didn't fit in the picture . on page 66 you are referring to the poem with names in hand the fairies know . i am working on the drop cap box . i think there are clues or words in there also . i've found two number 5's and a 3 . i would like to say that i don't feel all the clues are in the text alone . i believe that each holds the keys to what we need . let me know what you think . carol. p.s. thanks again for helping me out .

A couple quick questions, that don't pertain to one another. Has anyone been working on any possible references to Half??? And how old is MS???

Blackbeard , no to both questions. have you been working the half angle ? Do you think his age is important . i only ask cause it sounds as if it may mean something to you . I know i've asked before , but have found no where if the book is printed from recycled paper. he seems big on preserving the forests and all . really just curious since all has slowed down a bit here .

nolen - Glad to see that someone wlse is working on pg 19. ?I had a different thought that i am still working on but maybe you can get somewhere with it. ?I went through the entire book. ?Cover to cover and wrote down all the letters that were colored. ?Mostly drop caps and the black C from the ToC. ?I am now trying to form words with these letters using the color formation from the knots. ?Almost all of the Letters that are in this book are one of those 5 colors. ?Hope this gets you somewhere.

Hi everyone - I've been working on an excel spreadsheet by page in which I am trying to consolidate everything we already "know" to see what patterns emerge - it has been grueling, however. ?It seems that almost every page is linked to another page - I'm trying to figure out the significance.

We just had two of the most glorious week-end days weather-wise here in central VA that you could ever imagine, so I just had to get outside.

Anyway, when the April 1st clue came out, I googled "red herrings". ?The only interesting site I found is http://puzzlehunt.isetv.com/Answers/Carthaginian Answer.asp

I have been trying to use this technique with the dandelion seeds, and just about everything else, but I'm not smart enough to see anything.

Anyone else want to give it a try?

Carol,

On page 33, I do see what you're pointing out. The only thing it looks like to me, if it's not part of the Firefly's wings, is a leaf of some sort. Sorry--I know that's not much help.

It's a beautiful day here in sunny CA. Gotta get back to the BBQ.

Someone asked about MS's age - here's what I found:

A Treasure's Trove is unlike anything ever done by the 50-year-old entrepreneur, whose life is a classic rags-to-riches story. By his own description, he was born "dirt poor" in Mobile, Alabama. He and his mother eventually moved to Louisville, where one of his teachers noted the young Stadther's promise and recommended that he go to a residential high school for gifted children. There, he wrote an original mathematics research paper that he presented to NASA which led to his meeting a NASA physicist who turned out to be the generous benefactor who helped financed Stadther's college education at Tulane University, where he earned a B.S. in mathematics in three years. Stadther graduated in 1973 as the computer age was dawning; he became an early software developer and moved to New York.

Also, note the relationship to NASA.

zuse,

You're making me doubt my own findings, yet further strengthening my hope there is a token in Houston.? I think MS's personal history is certainly a viable angle to work with.? For one, he had to know something about the 13 locations he has chosen to hide the tokens.? He most certainly had to know about each location beforehand.? Particularly when you factor in that he has been working on this hunt for many years.

I hate going back to the drawing board, but would gladly volunteer if it meant discovering a token here in Houston! ;) Oh, and FYI, mission control for NASA resides in Houston! Houston, we have a token! :D

Pancho - I hope you're right about Houston! I have a very strong feeling that there is a link to the moon, astronaughts going to the moon, something, in this story. I don't have a great deal of real proof yet, but I'm working on it. I'll let you know if I figure anything out. Zuse

I also think that he had to have some previous knowledge about where he wanted to hide the tokens but based on the story, I do think that there is a common denominator to the location of all the tokens. ?An example would be that we for the most part believe that they are all in a trees hole. ?What do you all think?

Trapape - Here's the paradox, there have been numerous discussions and references to "trees hole" being the hiding places - too many to ignore. There have also been numerous discussions as to why that would be a poor hiding place.

So, I think we need to figure out what else MS could mean by the term "trees hole". It doesn't anagram into anything useful.

Doesn't it seem that we are on the VERGE of figuring this out?

I know what you are saying, having been on a hunt last weekend and finding the perfect location I walked away wondering if a bird or squirrel beat me to it. Not the best feeling to have after so many hours of searching. But I am still convinced that they are located inside of trees. I firmly believe that because of the clue stating that there is no digging or prying just reach inside. Plus a trees hole helps to protect a token from all types of weather and even a fire (if it doesn't completely burn the tree down).
I also feel that we are all getting close to finding a token or two. I wish everyone here the best of luck!

i don't think stadthers age has anything to do with being a clue seeing how his age will change during the duration of the hunt... Also just to add some fuel to the fire...."the secret is not half .....but it IS (K)not (W)hole what does everyone think?

Okay this really sucks because I have been on the verges of breakthroughs for a couple of days and I keep messing up my own theories by disproving myself. What I did figure out is what the poem is really trying to say. "An even code with one piece nary, will spell out the sanctuary, Within the text you have the key, for the one that is missing you did not see" Each jewel has its own code. Ex. spider=celtic knots, i know this will lead to the sanctuary because of the strange patterns. another ex. the page with the two snails on it, they have those strange dots there. The word even is just there to say that all the codes use the same sort of pattern to solve it. The one piece nary is there to say 1. a piece needs to be removed, 2. one of the codes is not there for the jewel, or 3. it is speaking of pook, hence the next line in the poem is Within the text you have the key, for the one that is missing you did not see. Tell me what you think. If this helps any of you guys. Thank me later when you find a jewel and are interviewed on TV. ;)

My Brain Hurts- My age question was due to a strange private message i got, and in regards to your "knot hole" comment--- what if the sentence read,- the seceret IS not half, but it IS NOT hole...
A few other questions bothering me---? pg 64 flower fairies only ones to hide jewels??? pg 57 why are darklings(fairies) known to humans??? mentions of jeweled forest creatures hanging from a tree pg 57 & 63--- pook could see and hear fairies and talking trees pg 60???? Why can darklings eat the BLIGHT and not be affected pg 58 ???

Carol,
I guess I need to go back and review the page that lists the answers to solved clues. I hate when I'm duplicating work done by others. There must be a relation between what we see in the pictures and the clues in the text. The dream segment said, Zac saw the Great Forest in a new way and put those things in the box.( paraphrased) I do like the idea that if you find the chapter with the critter and its mate, that could be where the clue lies to that particular token. Otherwise, I'm back to square one, has anyone found anything on page 80 or more on the last clue? Kregger

I've been out of town and haven't had a chance to post lately. I just wanted to agree with some of the posts as of late. I also believe that the moon comes into play in this game. I don't think that it's a coincidence that the dandelions look like crescent moons (well, to be technical, I think that they are actually "gibbous" moons and not "crescent" moons (gibbous is also an anagram for "bug bois(e)")). They "are not half and are not whole" full moons. I find it interesting that some of my discoveries have lead me to "moon trees" and it's also interesting that some things occur at midnight in the book. Pancho may be right checking out Houston. Aren't astronauts our space "delegates". The insects refer to themselves as delegates and an embassy. And, of course, moon trees are related to astronauts.

I can't remember from the posts, but has anyone done any work with the dandelions and/or their moon similarities?
