this was a two day privy
Dig that turned out to be one of the best digs in a long while. it was very hard to find because it's been so dry lately. but once we did find it it ended up having two feet of fill on top. once we got down into it it ended up being about 10 foot by 8 feet wide so we had to call for backup but that's fine because it turned out to be a worthwhile rectangle stone-lined privy that started in 1920 that had a 6 foot use layer. also had the privilege of metal detecting the dirt that the guys were pulling out. here are some of the highlights that we recovered. the homeowners ended up with 4-5 boxes full of bottles. I will update the pics once I get everything cleaned up it's going to take a while but thank you for looking!
Lyle

Insane digs!!! Awesome! That must have been a date range if it was from 1920 to the age of those flasks. Must have been dipped a few times or something.

Whoa Lyle,

From 1920 to pontiled Eagleland in 6 feet! Is that a Louisville Union Eagle? What if anything is in the oval? Hearty congratulations to you and your crew.

I'm looking forward to après bath photos and story time...

Way to treat the homeowners.

Well done, gentlemen!

Great finds! Is the buckle silver and what is the coin with what looks like rays on it?

Thanks so far for the kudos friends! Some of you were asking about the silver buckle/attachment piece and the possible counterfeit 8 reale. The silver piece looks to be similar to a love token and 8 reale is getting an electrolysis bath so we'll see if its authentic. I'll keep an update

Nice finds for sure ! I'm really interested to see if the Mexican coin is real - I'd actually be surprised if it was a fake , is one of the smaller coins
a Mexican coin also ? And what on earth is the engraved piece ? it really looks like silver !

That is a great dig! You say the privy was started in 1920 but some of your bottles are much older than that. That Butlers ink is a rare little bottle and I've seen some of them dug in civil war trash pits. Good post, loved it.

Holy cow!!!! It looks like you dug almost to China. That is so cool. Some very nice finds. The silver belt buckle it awesome.
I've always wanted to dig out a privy like you've done. I know of a few at some plantation properties that I'm sure would turn up some goodies.
Congrats to you,
MM
