Hello All,

What you see below is two hunts worth. Went out after the ice storm in Louisiana to dig with Shanegalang but he couldn't get to the site due to road closures. :( So we dug some silver without him. But he made up for it Big Time when he joined us later on for a hunt where he struck Carson City silver! I have never dug a CC minted coin. Nor have I ever seen one dug. So this is a first for us, and an unusual find down here. His 1876-CC Seated is quite an excellent coin for condition. DiggerGirl also got some nice finds with a 1943 Quarter, Amusement Token, and especially her find of a Picket Pin!!

I scored a little silver with two war nickels and a mercury dime. It has been fun digging all this new silver, but we're starting to crave something older again. :) We did get a couple good signs that tell us we were close to an old spot. The pottery was early 1800s in spots, we found a clay pipe stem, and picked up several bone buttons... Soon we'll be back at it again, after the antebellum stuff. But it's been fun to dig over $2 face value in silver in a couple hunts, even if it was modern.

Here are the photos and video. Enjoy.

Combined finds, minus the picket pin, merc, two nickels, token, and one of the bone buttons...

I have said it many times,I live 2 hrs from the CC Mint and those are rarer out here than anywhere. They are rare everywhere but more pop up out East it seems.Fantastic digs my friend!!!!

Wow, I had no idea about the dispersal pattern of the CC mint. Great to hear from you my friend. A Carson City coin is still on MY list. But now I know that it's possible. Seems like the only place any mintmark but New Orleans turns up is sites that were occupied post-Civil War. Before that it was Spanish and Orleans Silver all the way. Y'all ever get many "O" mint coins out there?

Best Wishes,

Buck

Beleive it or not I have dug at least three "O"s.I will have to look and see exactly how many

Buckaroo,
That Shangalang is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Way to go on that CC seated dime!!! Beauty. :occasion14:
Congrats to DiggerGirl on that cool picket pin and silver.
Call me weird, but I love those old bone buttons. They would l@@k great on Dman's green shirt. :laughing7:
Great hunt and super video Will. I'm still banking on you scoring that Barber quarter before the wedding.

That kicks ass to find a CC coin. I found an 1876 CC dime as well in a field in Missouri, and it shocked me to find it. I'd love to know the story of the journey that dime took from Nevada to a field in MissouriIMG_1468.webpIMG_1469.webp

Hey DUHg,

You're wierd. I know, cuz I like them too. I admire that Mochaware shardage, too, so there. 8-)

Awesome finds, looks like you had a fruitful hunt.

Nice bunch of finds, like the seated cc...

I just got 8 more inches of snow. Those are great finds, I'm soooooooo jealous. I can't wait for the thaw. Ha lol. Good for you guys, keep digging.

Nice finds and love that CC

I think those bone buttons are great, too. I only found one or two of them before I came here. Now I have five of them in my collection. I'm sure that we'll get more once we dig out the trash pits at this site. Dman's shirt doesn't need any help. It is weird by itself without the buttons!

Still trying for a Barber Quarter,

Buck

Thanks for the GREAT photo of the mint! The Mochaware is way old, and I am going to freak out when we dig our first complete one out of a pit!

Cheers,

Buck

AA, you are one of the ORIGINAL Tnet crew. You, Me, Mona, Gypsy, PBK, Jim, DG, Mighty AP... I miss our conversations too! How are things going out there?

still married:laughing7:

This was super exciting! So this coin makes my top find ever. Whats cool too is that I found it about 20 yards from where I dug a 1876 S Quarter about three weeks ago. Tells a great deal about the site. As always, a great time! Cheers everyone- Shanegalang

I hadn't thought about it before, but I've only found one "CC" coin in my life! That one is a real beauty!
Congrats!

Those Carson City mint marks are extremely rare around these parts too Buck. Like you, I don't ever recall seeing or hearing about one being dug in VA. Please pass on my congrats to Shanegalang. And the rest of you didn't do too bad either. And BTW - we're having our own weather issues up this way too. Had 6-10" of snow last nite and it'll drop to the single digits tonight so it might be a while before the fields are ready. Just another delay in an already slow season.

A seated coin of any kind is great but add the CC and that makes it an incredible find. Congrats Buck! Keep at it.

That is for sure bad news up there. The snow/ice won't hold us up much down here, but it sucks to have time off and not be able to go anywhere to dig. Thousands of bridges in this state, and most of them closed today. :( I bet it's tough for y'all to wait on that new spot you found. Can't wait to see that post. Excellent article in AD magazine by the way. Don't know if I told you that yet or not.

Cheers,

Buck

Nice little hunt there between the three of you. Picket pin is a neat relic. What's a CC doing down there in the land of the big O?

That's the million dollar question. :D
