UPDATE 1799 Cent 1917Walker,KGII,IHs, 38&44LCs,642cnt 1804 1/2cnt!

Well after hitting that 1838 LC two days ago, I went back yesterday....at 3" ..bam....out pops a copper, I could make out what type it was, but could not see the year until today when I carefull began to clean it up. I have not done the reverse yet, that is going to take some time. 1799 Draped Bust Cent...not sure of the variety yet, hopefully this pic gives a better ID.

Today I went back, nothing but a zincoln for over an hour. Managed to yank a silver topless thimble which kind of got me going. Then I notice something a little distance away, a bottle hunters worst nightmare! 98% of everything broken! I put down the detector for a bit and started rummaging through the broken glass. I managed to save a few, some very interesting ones I kept anyway that were broken but had nice embossments on them...like the pin worm syrup. Most are small medicine bottles, all the big cool ones were done. I saw dates on a few the were 1840's, 1860's and the one that really got me down deep was a George Washington flask shattered, but two big pieces remained that I took a pic of with my cell phone...(will post pics sometime tomorrow).

I was about to call it quits but went back to the detector for just a little more, I picked a random spot and within a couple of swings out pops a ring from 2", Looked like a class ring, but not school info on it, the stone is also missing, looks antique. In that same swing, I had a quarter reading at 0", figuring it was a clad quarter, I stuck my digger under it and popped it out....Pow! 1917 Walking Liberty Half ( will post pic of the hole tomorrow as well) Kept going for a little while longer to pull out that Eagle Button with a Ridabock & Co. NY backmark (it has 19 stars around it, 2 piece and quite fat - any Albert's Book owner's help me ID please!)

Finally I get a good high reading at 6"....i dig.....i dig some more......signal still there, hmm it's deep, signal still good, not iron.....i dig some more...thoughts of a mason jar filled with coins races through my head, i dig....still not there yet..I'm well over a foot down..i dig more...pinpointer now telling me i'm close...i dig more...im there...............is it the mason jar? is it filled with coins?!!

No its a friggin brand new Sprite Soda Can......I can't figure that one out :icon_scratch:...Walker at 0" just a few feet away, now a brand new soda can over a foot down....dissapointing...especially spending so much time digging that one carefully...

I wish it was just this stuff I dug, but the trash to treasure ratio here is 200:1, so much crap...

Hopefully I get back tomorrow..this spot will be extinct really soon.

Re: 1799 Draped Bust Cent! 1917 Walker, bottles and buttons

GREAT photos! Thank you for posting the rest of them. 8) :)

If you do sell this coin, or invest in its conservation to keep it (so that your children or their children won't have to pay for that service), I'd love to see a photo after NCS does their work.

Best Wishes and Congrats Again,

This isn't a banner yet? (I don't get that sometimes. <sigh>)

It didn't make banner due to the picture is hosted by Photobucket.

What he said.

Woj, if you want to make the banner, your pictures can't be hosted on Photobucket.

Congrats on a wonderful find. Looks like you hit a great spot. The bottles are incredible too

The banner is overrated anyway.

... well at least when I'm not on it. :D

Ah, that's easy to fix and makes sense according to the rules. Never would have thought to check that.

It's such a nice find.

Re: 1799 Draped Bust Cent! 1917 Walker, bottles and buttons

Fixed, at least the first post.

I just returned from a really short hunt (gf's emergency!) First pulled a 44 Wheat, a flat button, a partial copper which I hope to ID soon (possible KG), and a 1865 Indian Head that looks like it was in a fire. Pics up (hosted on T-net from now on!) soon.

Re: 1799 Draped Bust Cent! 1917 Walker, bottles and buttons

Great finds. Like the old bottles.

Re: 1799 Draped Bust Cent! 1917 Walker, bottles and buttons +KGII, IH

Here is the partial KGII (I think) which is my first, too bad there is only half of it, and that fried 1865 IH I pulled yesterday.

damn woj you had yourself a hell of a hunt congrats and hh

Re: 1799 Draped Bust Cent! 1917 Walker, bottles, buttons, KGII, IH's, 1838LC,1844 LC

And the spot is still producing.

Today, I spent an hour digging targets through some super hard ground that was once a driveway. Only pulled one good signal that read as a quarter at 7.5"....popped out a corroded 1919 Wheat. The rain began to fall, and I was getting alot of junk signals. So as I was quickly walking back to my truck, I got a decent quarter signal at 3.5" in some soft dirt. Again, another large cent just like my 1838 last week, only this one an 1844.

The clock is ticking at this site, it will soon be gone forever.

And here are the buttons from a few days ago, and that other trashed 1905 Indian is above. The soil isn't too kind to American coins. The KGII, although its in half, seems to have stood up to the test of time.
First one small one is super fine standard F.C. (or L.C.) and still has some fabric attached to it, the second is a No.2 Double Guilt, the two others I can't make out just yet.

I am also still indecisive as what to do with the 1799 Draped Bust Cent. I have been slowly trying to clean up the reverse, and will get a picture up once I think I can't do any more.

Re: 1799 Draped Bust Cent! 1917 Walker, bottles, buttons, KGII, IH's, 1838LC,1844 LC

Well....all I can say is...holy moly.... :o

I go back to my honey hole and everytime...I come home with something good!!

Just a few hours ago, I pulled an 1864 2-cent EYEBALLED! right on top of the ground! I swung my coil over it to make sure it wasn't a round rock. I couldn't tell what it was at first but saw a faint 2...this is my 2nd 2 center. I'm not sure if its big or small motto yet, still needs a cleaning, I just cleaned it up enought to take a few pics. The other side with the date needs a good cleaning so I did not take a pic of it yet.

Moving right along, dug a few iffy signals, which is the lantern piece, the hangar, and the flat button. Finally again, in the soft dirt, out came something I haven't yet found until today, ..I saw the same Draped Bust figure as my 1799 1cent, only this one was smaller.....just cleaned her up enough ..1804 Half Cent..my first, obverse looks pretty damn good, but the reverse has some green chunkies on it that I would like some advice on how to remove.

Here are the pics, and I will post my cell phone pics tomorrow of the 2 center sitting on the ground.
I really cant wait to get a good macro lens for my camera....I tried to shoot some of these through a lit up magnifying glass lamp.

Re: UPDATE 1799 Cent 1917Walker,KGII,IHs, 38&44LCs,642cnt 1804 1/2cnt!

I know this thread is kind of dragging on, and I should probably just make a new one of my more recent finds, but they are all coming from the same area. I kind of want to keep it going. When all is said and done, and this spot is "history" I will post a picture of everything together, hopefully with a new macro lens. (Still wondering why the 1799 DB Cent didn't make banner even after I switched the pics from photobucket to Tnet?? :-\)

But anyway Cell phone pics...

First pic is of the 2-cent lying on top of the ground in a loader track. This was only a few minutes into the hunt and I hadn't even dug anything yet!

Second is the shallow 1/2 cent. Anyone have experience in getting green encrusted sand crystals off of a coin, as shown in the above post?

What an incredible site. Wow!!! Awesome finds. The 1799 should make the banner, that is truly amazing. Sweet IH also and all the other coins. thanks for sharing.
