....Not 100% sure but most of the Indians from Texas were Cherokees.........I have a great..great...great ....great...great grandma that was full blooded Cherokee...lost count of all of the greats.....but my dad used to tell us kids that we were 1/64th part Cherokee Indian......I think that is real neat........Joe

....Riverrat...I think that you sent me an email about the Cabins versus the Quality Inn......I would probably rather stay at the Cabins but I am also very pratical and not sure how this would work.....I convinced my wife to join us but she is a Non-treasure Hunter....she like to watch us crazies for a while though....I think that I noticed that at least 2 other spouses were attending that was not Treasure Hunters...maybe they can be company to each other.....with my wife coming I will probably be able to arrive on Sunday...the 17th...and most likely have to leave on Wednesday morning the 20th.......I do not want to cause any inconveniences to anyone so the motel still sounds more reasonable!!??.........or Talk me out of it??.........LOL.....Joe

That looks like three nights,Joe.The cabins have double beds,full kitchens,a/c,full baths and they are all the same price to us, $66.50 (excluding tax) And best of all,you would have access to all of us!And you can also detect the campground.You should really think about it.

Just spoke with Neal's (Ann) The restaurant will be opened the weekend...Friday (Supper); Saturday (Breakfast, Lunch, Supper), Sunday (Breakfast, Lunch) The store is well stocked with supplies.

:wink: RR

The only inconveniences will be if you stay at a motel. How are you gonna sit around a camp fire and chat with everybody at a motel?? I just checked the nightly rates @ QI...$79.95 no tax...with the total price at Neal's is a $5 difference, add the tax to the motel and I want to say Neal's is gonna be $12 cheaper per night. Your best bet is stay with us!!

Well, your wife could join up with the other "non hunting spouses" and hit the garage sales/flea markets; browse the shops in town. Not sure if you are aware but the non hunters are normally abandoned during these hunts, hence the Abandoned Spouse Society that was initiated during our 1st hunt in Missouri.

It's the camaraderie of it all. :icon_thumright:

my non-hunting spouse will also be there.

Now that you identified yourself, I do remember and I know a bunch of others from Caldwell will remember too...some will be in TX. Well, we will be hunting in & around the Uvalde area each day...but, we're all staying at Neal's (Concan), so that's more or less where we're meeting.

Per message from Warsawdaddy... Our first meeting on Friday evening I think should be about 7pm at Neal's meeting room. Maryanna said someone else is using it during the day but we could have it Friday evening at no cost.

:wink: RR

Here is a place Ed has secured for us;
This ranch at one time was a training camp for missionaries, a camp for kids with problems and even a training grounds for Nigerian oil field workers. I think it is possible for you guys to really have an opportunity to find some stuff.The Frio River borders it.

I have to contact the owner because in Ed's email he said he got permission for us on a certain date(20th) and I want to see if he just picked that date or what but I want to try and get it for the 18th and 19th instead if possible.BTW,a tornado went through there years ago and knocked down a lot of the old buildings.The land is not being used for anythingI don't know if they have ever cleaned them up or not,the owner lives out of town(80mi).

roy2bears - Right now it looks like we will all get together the evening of the 15th at Neal's meeting hall around 6-7pm,where I'll give the directions to the first hunt site.

I too, may be bringing a non-hunting "friend"....

OMG :o Steve, those are totally awesome, I'm green with envy ;D. What are my chances of finding artifacts like these in Uvalde area? WSD stated the area they were in last year, they found Indian arrowheads. I'll leave my MD at home just to find things like what pictured in the frame.

You are going to join us? Bring the frame for show & tell.

Here is a little info on the third place we will hunt;

Hi Ed! The photographer called late Friday and here is a bit of information on the ranch.

There is 400 acres but your group would only be able to hunt on about 40-50 acres. He will give a history of the place to the group. The Nueces River runs about 1/4 mile on one end but has a solid rock riverbed. There is a family graveyard with 2 graves from the 1870's. There is also a cabin which was built in 1847 and somewhere a shootout took place between Captain Jack Hays and the Texas Rangers against the indians.

The 5 Oaks Ranch is located on Hwy 55, 35 miles from Uvalde and 4 miles North of Montell. The ranch is on both sides of the highway however, your group will be hunting on the East side of the Hwy. The official address is

Contact name:

He will need to be there to meet the group and tell them a little bit about the land.

Ok,people,we will hunt Manza's place on saturday and sunday(16/17).Would you prefer to hunt the old missionary school or the 5 Oaks ranch next?Look at what has been posted for them and let me know by tomorrow and I'll see what I can set up.Looks like Cook's Slough borders part of Manza's,the Frio borders the school and the Nueces borders part of the ranch.
Manza's is on the southside of Uvalde,the school is a little SE and the ranch is nw near camp wood.
Manza also has 2 acres on the Frio near Concan we hunt sometime.

Warsawdaddy....thank you so much for your tireless effort to make this hunt happen....you have gone way beyond the call of duty to find places to hunt, I can only imagine the number of hours you have spent on the phone...Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
No problem.Just remember that I haven't seen these places in person,so?I also asked that a $5 donation toward the landowners and Ed and Joanne who have worked hard down there to get these places.The donation will go toward a large bottle of Vodka for Ed,a box of candy and a bottle of wine for Joanne.I still need to find out what the other landowners,Manza,Cecil and Ron drink and since Maryanna at Neal's is giving us all the cabins at one price plus linens/towels/detecting privalige maybe someone can suggest something for her.If the $5 doesn't cover it all,I'll make up the difference.
