Vermont Landscape Copper + Big Spanish = Speechless!!

We had a thrilling hunt yesterday! I made a couple very nice saves and wanted to share. My finds were recovered using an AT Max, stock coil, zero mode, 00 disc, about 90GB, low 'n slow! Coins were found at depths of about 5-8", tough signals in fairly mineralized and clay-like soil. Freezing and wet all darn day, with nothing but 1700's relics to keep us warm! Late 1700's home site, private property hunted with permission.

The goods:
1.5 tombac buttons. My buddy Kurt found the other half I think--need to match them up. My one complete has a cool scalloped edge pattern.
1 early flat button with big fat shanker.
KG2 Half Penny, barely IDable
1777 2 Reales Mexico City
and my favorite find of the day: a Vermont copper! Landscape variety, (Ryder 6), 1786. Lucky enough to have the details on the reverse to ID it. My first and probably last landscape Vermont haha! The obverse is almost toast, I can see a part of the eye and the rays are 98% toast!

Kind of a hunt that many dream about, but never experience often or ever. Congrats on the hunt and the recoveries, just read the reply for the total amount of coppers that were recovered from the site-NICE! Liking the coppers and what's there not like about getting a silver as nice as that. Certainly a day to remember for many days to come.

Had a pretty crazy hunt myself. My personal best copper day. 10 Colonial Coppers! Unfortunately I have no footage to show of it. It was raining the entire hunt. It was hard enough trying to stay warm and dry. I decided to enjoy a muddy mental heath day and left the camera in the truck.

We we’re invited to a 1790’s Mill by our friend and fellow club member Terry. We weren’t finding much around the old mill house (the house had been completely renovated which was a peace of beauty). So I wondered up a steep hill and worked the road line. At the top of the hill I stumbled across an iron patch. Which I believe to have been a possible mill store or some sort of trading post. The coins kept coming...

That must have been fun. Busy place in the late 1780s. I wish more places like that would give up more Spanish silver. Nothing beats finding silver you know was dropped in the 18th century though. Unless yur lucky enough to find 17th century silver. Lol

Great finds Kurt. Make sure you always hunt the high spots near the mill sites. Most mill sites had secondary home sites nearby. I've hunted a few mills and have always come across a home site on higher ground nearby. That's where the good stuff usually is. I hunted a mill site at the edge of a farm field and the mill site turned up very little but there was a really hot spot several hundred feet away in the field. The coppers were poppin. Not trying to highjack Brad's post with a response to your add on....just a response to both of you in general. Keep the good stuff coming and congrats to you both.
