Virginia 1-PIECE Button!

This one was a BIG surprise. Josh and I were after the 4th H.M.A. today and I got the button signal.... I dig the plug and for some reason, this thing pinpointed WAY off. It was a good 4 inches or more to the left of where it seemed . To clean it, I used 4 or 5 wetted cotton swabs and gently rubbed them over the surface to remove most of the dirt. Then I thinly layered my finger with mineral oil and brushed it over the surface, highlighting the highest points. I intentionally left some of the dirt to help bring out the detail.

UPDATE- The Button is the 1B listed in Bramblefind's reply (#7) below.. the only example I could find of the 1B online is listed in the link, item # cs112, over halfway down the page.. it's pretty beat up, but the same variant.

I would like to personally congratulate a group of local hunters for figuring out where our site is/was Next time you send out "your people" to do your dirty work, try not to make it so obvious. Josh and I have NEVER asked anyone to accompany them to sites where they're finding nice things. It's etiquette. After failed attempts by this group, they've done their homework and located the spot Good luck and try not to get too frustrated when you're out there and can't get a signal.

Great button!! Is that button larger than most CW buttons? I was at the Museum of the Confederacy last week in Richmond drooling over all their stuff, when I noticed that some of the VA uniforms contained some huge buttons, but they appeared to be of a two pieced construction, not a cast one, like yours.

Sorry to hear that some one is skunk-dogging your site!! That is the worst of the worst! Hopefully Karma will drop a big dump on them. Or someone will kick their ass!! Either one would suffice, but both would be even better.

Lastly, I wanted to share a piece of this great site with anyone who would like to have it.. I'll attach pics, but its an Eagle "A" cuff still in the dirt clod. Roughly 1850, give or take 10 years. If you are the first to pm and tell me that you'd like to have it, with your address, it's yours. Please no avid CW hunters. Let's get it to someone who doesn't have one. I just sent my buddy in HI. Union and Confederate bullets. Dropped and spent.
He was stoked, to just have something of historical value that he normally may never be able to dig.
