Warnings on Magnet Fishing

Ok I have been magnet fishing for quite a while. The other day I bought a new magnet. It is a top pull and it has a 3500 pound pull. I have 5 r 6 much smaller ones. I just wanted this big bruiser. I have been doing this type of recovery for quite a few years. This new one i bought is a heave one and hard to throw very far. I paid over $200 dollars for it. Any way on my first toss i got a piece of pipe maybe 2 inches in diameter and maybe 3 ft long. Worthless . My next toss I hit something that got the magnet. I think it got into a typer of tree root. We got on the other side of the creek and pulled it in easily. My next toss in a little area above where i got it stuck and B AM it was stuck again. It was not to far from shore so we pushed the line back with a long branch. So after almost loosing a $200 PLUS magnet There was no metal it attached to. TWO out of three tosses got stuck. There was no 4th TOSS. Have any of you peoples had this such happenings ?

I’ve always wondered about that. If you have a 3500 lb magnet, does that mean it could lift 3500 lbs? Because if so, there’s no way I’d be pulling that up off the bottom without a chain and a winch…

Think I'd only get a 100 lb. magnet, 'cause anything heavier than that is not getting
pulled up...at least not by me!

I only ever bought one,, tried to be real careful, lowered it gently into a small rocky pool, went down about 4 meters, never to return.

Well you watch the you tube videos and they never seem to get hung up. I am thinking about cutting the top part of a plastic bottle and slipping it down over rope and taping it over the magnet . Then maybe it would slide over a lot of snags.

I did have one of my earlier ones get stuck on a metal bridge. I had to go home and get a couple hundred feet of rope and tie it to the rope on the magnet. Then tied it to my car That worked.

Some companies make thick plastic cones to go over the top of the mag so they won't snag so easily.
Like the bottle idea but they fit exactly and are more robust.

Brute used to sell them, but they aren't on their website anymore.

I have a magnet...was a gift...about the size of a hockey puck...haven't tried it yet...It doesn't appear to be super strong so I'm thinking about getting one with a stronger pull...

I have been an avid fisherman for 50 years and the bottom line is if you're going to throw things attached to strings into dark waters you're occasionally going to lose your rig. There is no way around it other than to use heavy cable and a wench.

Sometimes you have to get wet if you want your magnet back...
You can also attach two ropes(top and side) to your mag and pull from different directions, if your mag has that option.

I've done some in really snaggy areas with the cone. Didn't have to get wet. Kinda got snagged but it came loose after a little persuading.

I've also found that completely static ropes are best.

I got mine when I bought mags from Brute Magnets.
But they aren't on their website anymore.

ETA- I just went and looked. No name, number or anything on the cones.

If you can't find them online. Maybe try a heavy plastic oil funnel in the auto department. Cut it to fit.

From what I remember He lost one of his Giant Magnets ! Being he also Sells Them, He probably Got a Free one from the Manufacturers
to replace it.

I Notice those with Smaller Magnets lose them & Those with Bigger Magnets Find them (Better Quality of Rope on the Big Ones )
Or Boredome with Smaller Finds and chuck them?

I Used to like Adventurous Emmie she was funny. unfortuatly her Adventure apparently Wasn't that adventerious, Or her Boyfriend got tired of Her showing him up. she used to Show Him on her Vids when he'd find a gun,
He used to cut her out of His vids when she did.

she was Then just doing short Clips , & Now Doesn't even Hunt that I see.

Most of them Yell & Carry On ! I Can't Tolerate That !

It's also the mystery and excitement of what you may pull from the water.
