Keppy, unfortunately still working, I have 584 days till I can draw everything. Like you I will still work but I will find a job with a lot less stress.

I am on call this week, had to work a trouble ticket 75 miles from home last night, fixed the problem about 1:30 am back home at 2:45 am and up 5:30 to go back to work.

I came here to research some equipment and make a few purchases. I also have made a few post to certain parts of the forum I share interest in. To imply I must pay for that information or Im a freeloader really makes me mad. I don't charge for my information and I have spent hundreds of dollars gathering the research and photos I take. While I would not want dizzy to stop posting, I just disagree about his comments. It appeared to me a personal attack on lonewolf, and knowing what it takes to put 5000 post together, I was just po'd about the comment. I see the personal attacks on here all the time. Sometimes they are old friends just having a good argument. I think you get what you pay for Dizzy, and Im sure that's what you meant. I made a few mistakes on here too. But you have to be careful as the guys selling the shovel are the only ones making any money. There is some great info on here for beginner and experienced alike. I hope you continue to post your mind dizzy. If the forum would like to up the Charter Membership, I would suggest a option to only receive certain types of threads. I am not interested is certain types of hunting and don't want to receive those. I too avoid certain threads as I already know where its going. I think your going to get your moneys worth Dizzy, but don't ask about the money back guarantee lol.

The way I see it there is general content that everybody supplies.
Then there is premium content that the charter members pay for.
What some of you are asking for is to receive the premium content for free.
What incentive does that induce for charter membership?
It's just like at the gas pump; you don't get premium by sticking the regular hose in your tank!

Just sayin

Agree Casca. You can cherry pick on here and learn and share. Why I joined. As a non Charter Member it offers a lot and still gives you the tools to block members and sections. Being a Charter member does not make you better but it does have advantages and perks on navigating the site. As it should. Treasure net does have rules we agree to when signing up to post. It's a passionate hobby with passionate people. We dig it. It is also family oriented with lots of young members so we are not going to tolerate personal attacks name calling bickering and the like.

You can still view the ads, right? If so, pick out what ya want and send the
member a PM. Should work OK.

I am a Charter Member now, and while there's not some huge "goodie bag" that
come with it, simply making a small donation to help defray the site expenses
can't hurt.

I've learned a TON from this site, already, and since the site (overall) gives us so much,
helping out if I can (and I'm poor, too!) just seems the right thing to do. The $20 spent
for the CM status will pay me back ten-fold in the extra gold I'll find as a result of having
the input of so many skilled and experienced detectorists and miners.

Just my 2centavos worth..

Or a Ton from the Members of the site, it's the Members that make this site, not all are Charter members.

You got to be kidding right...:icon_scratch: I can honestly say that I have learned not very much from here, that's if we are talking about detecting, and finds.

The mods are in agreement that anyone should be able post in want ads.....

Replies are the issue, only charter members will be allowed to reply with item to sell the member is looking for...... selling or offering for trade is a cm only perk....

Please try and post and let us know if it allows you to post or not .

I don't know if admins need to change permissions or not in order for general members to be able to post in wanted.

exactly, as per rules only charter members can sell openly on the forum.

I don't think anyone has a problem if while making
one of your posts you mention you would like to buy a new machine, part, or anything else
for that matter. and if someone happens to see your post
and has one, perhaps maybe they will say so.
You don't need to be in the want adds for that.

the charter member thing is to cut down on the scam sales.
and online yard salers.
remember all the non treasure related for sale adds a few years ago ?

but hopefully we can get the Wanted sections opened

Liftloop: I went off without thinking straight (first time ever..lol), but did correct my statements and
made a public apology to you, and, like a gentleman would, and I would very much appreciate it if you
would accept it.

As far as this sites financial situation, that's not really any of my business. I do know from
being involved with some very large forum sites that, at the end of the year (even with donations),
there is little if any money to be made, so in my thinking it never hurts for members to help defray some
expenses if they are financially able to (and if they don't care to, then that's fine too!). If an owner
wants to retire from a site and sells it (after putting years of effort into it), and even makes a little
along the way then IMO more power to them, as they've done far better than most. (Disclaimer:

Thanks guys - I figured you'd all agree there's really no risk in just asking for something one may be looking to purchase.

As for ONLY charter members being able to reply & actually sell an item - that's completely understood here and should be by everyone.

I tried to post in the wanted section as instructed but there's no button for posting a new thread - someone will have to remove the restriction and allow the button to show before we can actually post (as non charter members).

Thanks for the help and understanding

I guess there are a few ways to sweeten the pot, just have to make some small changes, maybe make it so only a charter members can make banner, only charter members post count shows, it use to be that only charter members could use the search function too....:tongue3:...............

Only charter members can post an item for sale or offer an item for trade.......Since that was established we have had very few problems with bad sales.....:icon_thumright:

Lonewolfe before I chime in I would like to thank you as well as numerous older members on treasure net who have taken such effort to share their experience and expertise on metal detecting. Even though I mostly hunt on salt water beaches, I take special effort(s) to read your well written and documented postings.

As I am relatively new to forums, I cannot meaningfully comment on the past, but understand how difficult and frustrating change can be. I truly wish that there were distinctions/alternatives other than member and charter member as a loss of someone with your experience of twenty years is a significant loss to new members.

However, I do understand the need for the current restriction. After posting [WANTED} Want to buy older Minelab Excalibur 800/newer Excalibur II 800 I received a PM from Giorgos , goldygoldylady , who claimed to be a new member from Greece, but was actually a scammster. Fortunately, I was able to determine this with assistance and help from T Net moderators before any money was lost. The unfortunate part is that purchasing a new Excalibur II 800 is no longer affordable as MineLab raised the purchase price $250 since then. This detector now cost(s) approx $1,500 from a reputable dealers for minelab and up to $2,000 by gougers on EBay.

If you have a question or an opinion of the way the site is built or what it has to offer, I bet the mods do not mind reading a PM instead of coming into the forum and correcting folks. Just an idea.
