Re: What are these freaky things?

They are brass and measure 1.5 inches by 1 inch. Approximately .5 inches high.

Not tanning bed glasses...but they sure look like that! Someone out there must know what these are for.

I have seen something like those on automotive heads under the rocker arms or the pushrods. :-\ Are they solid or hollow?

They are hollow...they are not uniform enough to be used in an auto. I should have mentioned this before but the two halves also fit together perfectly.

I'm stumped! ???

I found these together in the same hole. They look like brass eyes ;D, perhaps evidence of robot overlords of the 18 century?
They dang sure DO look like eyes- like the eyes those Easter Island statues once had! (But much smaller, of course).

The "18th Century Robot Overlord" guess is about as good as any I have.

Seriously, though, I wonder if they are some sort of native/aboriginal artifact like big beads or part of a gorget or something? If so, they could be a far sight older than the 18th century...

Hmm. This says "two halves of a big bead" to me, in an even slightly louder whisper.

And I have a gut feeling this thing (these things) are quite old. Look at the patina on 'em.

The flattened area (around the hole) on the one to the right leads me to think it might have been attached to something else at one time. Like it was part of something larger, originally.

Yikes...looks like I stumped the unstumpable...I guess I'll have to offer a reward on identifying these things. I am offering one (1) silver Canadian dollar to whoever can positively identify these (this) item(s).

Let the games begin! ;D

Re: What are these freaky things?

Nice reward, but how are you gonna determine if somebody has postively ID'ed them, or not?

Oh, I've got it!

They are petrified deviled eggs, from the local natives' Oohboogawooga Day Picnic.

Specifically, the one that took place in 1768.

May Second, 1768. It was a Tuesday, I think, but I could be wrong on that score, since I don't have the perpetual calendar handy.

Somebody ate the weird yellow stuff outta the middle, then dropped the white parts of their deviled eggs, which rolled off the edge of the picnic blanket and onto the ground. Because these eggs were pickled in vinegar with a touch of caribou musk, the ants didn't touch 'em. Gradually, they sank into the ground and petrified, shrinking a little in the process.

Oh, yeah, and they also leached up minerals from the surrounding soil, which made them metallic.

How'd I do?

Is that a positive enough ID for ya? ;D

Re: What are these freaky things?

Re: What are these freaky things?

Speakin' of pictures, I much preferred your old scenic avatar to the cartoon character you just switched to.

(That particular comic strip always annoyed me, but I guess I am just a stick in the mud.)
