What is the best pinpointer out there??

SunRay.

No additional batteries, uses your detectors display and your headphones, waterproof and you'll never leave it behind or misplace it accidently. Has the perfect sensitivity/depth for pinpointing.

There can only be ONE......for the reasons Charlie gave. It is fantastic with a range of 6 inches with my Sov GT. Before this the best was my fiberglass rod probe.

The problem with the inline probes is that Sunray doesn't make them for every conceivable detector on the market. For example, I don't think they have probes for Tesoro detectors. And if you have more than one detector and you have different brands then you need to buy more than one of them. A handheld pinpointer can be used with any detector in the world and I can switch back and forth between detectors all day long without hassle.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure the inline probes are great. But they have their drawbacks just like any pinpointer will have.

The DetectorPro Uniprobe is inline, and it can be used with all my detectors, Minelab, Whites, and Fisher, unlike the Sunray that is restricted to the detector it is tuned for. I have not seen any other inline probe that gets its depth and will do that. I do not know of any hand held probe that gets the 4-6 inches depth of the DetectorPro Uniprobe, or Pocket probe.

I only use my White's pinpointer when I sifted thru the dirt for about 3 times and I still can't find the target. I want a pinpointer that only picks up 1". I just move the White around until I get a signal. I once almost went nuts before I found 1 #6 shot with the Whites pinpointer. It's the old white color one. I have modified it. It has a green light that tells you that it is on and it vibrates when on target. I added a bright blue LED that light on target. The circuit was on the board but for some reasoh it wasn't used. I also used plastic solvent to glue the probe tube to the box. But if you are looking for a cheap alturnative Harbor Freight sells a "nail finder" that is a dead ringer for the Whites. I think it sells for $16.

Out of the current crop of pin pointers that is available, my choice would be the Minelab Pro-Find. It is a little pricey but it has superior function out of the others I own and tested.

Do not buy a garret pro pointer

Definitely the Vibra Probe...It is waterproof, durable, and no switches to worry about. Great pinpointer! Had mine for years and no problem!

That depends on what kind of metal detector you use. If you are using a powerful detector then a high end like pro pointer or detector pro (not waterproof but high sensitivity)
If a entry level detector then bounty hunter pinpointer is OK. If you need a mount you can consider ours mighty mount :occasion14:

I've only ever tried the pistol probe & the garrett.
Like the garrett better. Got mine when it first came out and it is still mint.

I cringe when I see people poking and ramming their pinpointers into the hole and then they wonder why they don't work properly after awhile.

I have 2 Garretts and 1 Minelab pinpointer. They both work well, but for some reason I have gravitated to the Garretts.

Well, you want a pinpointer that will pick up a dime from one inch away, You could buy a pro pointer for about $160 list, or a centec from harbor freight for about $16. The choice is yours. Frank...

What - no votes for Vibra Probe? That's my vote :icon_thumright:
I was looking to the Vibra Probe to upgrade from the Fisher probe that came with my Machine..they seem to have great deph anyone have one.just wondering how they work..

I have a Garrett pinpointer and I like it works really good

The thing about pinpointers is they have a very basic job to do. That is pick up a small object at app. 1" away. If the truth be told, They all do it. The big difference is the price. Frank...
Oh, look for one that doesn't have to be sent back to the factory quite so often! Frank...hand print-2_edited-5.webp

My advice is simply try out other fellow detectorists' pointers (- if they let you!),
or visit the various maker's websites, advertising in all the available models (- you can do it!)
....it just takes a (lot) of TIME...!
OR - (just) buy a Garrett, can't go too far wrong...!
...but, you'll have to remember to "take care if it, and it'll take care of you!"
and, also remember that, getting (real good) - skilled at using it - your pinpointer, the-second-most-important-TOOL-for-the-job!!
I've used the original White's Bullseye II, then discovered the Garrett - does false tho and is no-way WATER-Proof!
I'm looking seriously at the Makro pointer - it's waterproof, versatile and and yet, rugged...!
See Bill Ladd's YouTube video, field testing/reviewing the bran-new Makro pointer, working the pointer like a scraper, and looked like in real hard, almost dry, clay-like soil - real rock solid, but sensitive tool! Yeah! :icon_thumright:

I have the Deteknix X-pointer. It is a great pinpointer. With lanyard and tip covers and only $89 it is the best bang for the buck. Has great sensitivity and I have had no problems. No falsing. I had a Garrett propointer before that and it started falsing so bad that it became unusable. That was one month after the warranty expired. The Garrett is a good pointer but over priced.

Just picked up the newly released Makro pinpointer this week. Going to use it tomorrow on a hunt so will let you know. I cannot compare to a Garrett Propointer but have a Accufind to compare to and more than likely no comparison there! But I do think the Makro to be possibly a great pointer given it's features.

But the real test is in the dirt! Keep you posted.
