Stopped at the inlaws while in my travels today. (Just to Clarify...im very close to my inlaws and ITS NOT OK TO DETECT WITHOUT PERMISSION...I knew if this was anyway harmful, hurtful or totally wrong i wouldnt have done it....I was right...it was ok with my inlaws as long as it was no trace and leaving it as it was...Which I DID!) Figured it's been a little while since I've hit it and I have about a hour to burn. Very old home build in late 1850s-1860s. In an area about 10 feet in diameter I ended up popping out a 1918 buff, 1920 buff, 1906 Vnicky, and a wheatie. All the coins are pretty much smoked but it was still a good day! Got a real light signal reading 12+ inches. I ended up digging a badge from the Patriotic Order Son of America, Wilkes-Barre, PA and a date on the bottom 1899! This badge is awesome and it cleaned up real nice! On my way home I stopped at the store and saw a wheatie in the give a take a! Well I snatched up that wheatie and it ended up being a 1920-S. So all in all other than working it was a great day. Happy hunting!

Lots of soap boxes piling up in here. You would have thought you said you were digging up graves in a cemetery or snuck into Gettysburg battle site!

Thing is that's what he's looking for otherwise it would not have been mentioned, and I'd bet my next finds he is very close to his in laws and even if caught this is not a big deal.

In-laws or no in-laws it sets a bad example for new members...

Also ammo for those that don't like us already. Its an open forum, all can read, & the title just focuses the attention. If this is a true statement of a post, it was best left un-said. Because, my comments would have been more focussed on the great badge.

im extremely close to my inlaws...as of this morning i let them know i was diggin too...i even sent my father inlaw a picture i found on the internet of a excavator!...but then i sent a picture of the yard and he said...."as long as the grass is put back we dont mind one bit"...

to be honest...i just wanted to have a better head turning title...i guess i chose the wrong one..even if i really am close with my inlaws and i did tell them i was detecting it...`you and Crusader are right...it does set a bad example to everyone not just new members...and it is an open forum....it was just meant to be funny not to damage the image of detectorists like myself and everyone else...my father inlaw actually got a kick out of the post earlier but looking from the outside in and not knowing my relationship with them i could understand cause for concern...so for that i apologize to whomever i offended.

I am so offended...NOT! Nice badge, I'm jealous.

No apology needed, how about thread be retitled to "What to do when in laws say no more detecting.....ask again!"

Liking the badge and the patina toning, it's one of those finds that come out of the dirt and a person just smiles.

It takes practise to perfect the digging, good on ya for taking the time and making them perfect as many miss the point of doing a good return.

Thanks Pepper....yeah my father inlaw was impressed with the pics...but ur right especially on others property no trace is the best...i usually use a bandana and i make three cuts and flip the plug...then throw alll the dirt onto the bandana...works well and looks great! I still have a smile from finding that badge!

Lol the belt....that's the problem with Murica today...too many kids don't know what the Belt really is! Lol

Maybe, this is the issue. I make plenty of jokes, & 10% of them miss the mark, I can't help that & nor would I want to, but this maybe needed a little smiley to get us all on board.

Very true Cru!

Awesome badge and glad I read the whole thread! When using the (Type)written word it is easy for people to miss the joke or sarcasm, or fail to read between the lines. Glad you got your permission back and made the father-in-law happy with your finds!
