So I went out detecting a couple weeks ago at a local spot and guess what I found? POISON IVY! WOOOHOOOO!!! But not the poison ivy I got when I was a kid that just goes away when you stop scratching it... This poison ivy is some newer more evil strain of poison ivy...

The first day it was just on my hand so I'm like.. "whatever i'll put a glove on when i sleep and i won't scratch it and it will be gone in a few days and i'll be on my merry way.."

When I woke up the second day my eye was swollen shut and it was all over..

After about 3 days I could see again but it took about 2 weeks for the ivy to go away

It was all just about gone and I thought I was home free.. That night within about an hour I go from in the clear to completely covered in hives...

I went to sleep and when I woke up the next morning(today) they were pretty much all gone... ???

So like 2 hours ago out of nowhere I'm fully covered in hives again even worse... :'(

After doing some reading online apparently this happens to a lot of people from poison ivy and the hives can come and go for MONTHS!!!

If anyone has experienced hives after the poison ivy let me know if you know of some miracle cure pls :)

i've included some pics of the blood money.. lol

almost forgot, my cousin in Virginia uses Jewelweed.. may try that...

Dang - Sorry to hear about the poison ivy.

Here's hoping everyone on TNet stays healthy in 2012. :icon_sunny:

THAT SUCKS...... DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE COINS YOU FOUND - THEY MAY STILL HAVE OIL ON THEM.

I got poison ivy for the first time this year. I turned 30. I could eat it when I was a kid. Would rather have it than a seed tick nest anyday. Anyone who hasnt experienced the horror will never know.

Sorry to hear about the hives. Usually a trip to the Doctor and a shot of Benadryl will clear it up. At least you got some silver for your pains!!

:'( So sorry to hear about your outbreak. Yuck. Hope you're better. Happy New Year!

Nice find! The reaction--a major bummer!!

All the best,

Lanny

I know what you're going through. For years I suffered from what the doctor termed excercise induced hives. I broke out every time I started to sweat. Lasted about 20 years then just went away.

Sorry to hear about the killer poisen ivy. I have found that double doses of ibruprofen taken until the rash or hives are gone really works and stops the itch. Getting rid of the cause is tougher. You need to wash down everything you touched including car handles, shift sticks eyc as well as everything you may have touched in the house from doorknobs to remote controls. And toss any clothes you've worn since your exposure as well as sheets you've slept on. I know it sounds extreme but if you don't you'll just keep giving it back to yourself.

from what i understand the poison plants are more potent when you dig thru the roots and get the sap drippings on your skin..... this is how some people who are otherwise resistant to the leaves end up with it never realizing the roots they were digging thru were poison.....
