But the presence of a media camera in the room kinda renders that level of caution moot....

My question was rhetorical, the answer was already obvious. I watched the last half of the episode tonight, and wonder why you would stop metal detecting a site once you found a belt buckle? That is a sign to continue detecting, not for you to stop. Maybe they were there much longer than shown on camera, but I would have set up camp right there for the night and given the guy with the metal detector a chance to be as thorough as possible. Also, I carry at least an 8 inch monocoil with me in the high country on long multi-day hikes, and often bigger than that. Why have that dinky little coil we saw on camera? Won't get much depth with that.

And its just my opinion, but Waltz's comment about miners not being able to find the mine was not an insult, but pointing out it may have been in an area where there were no obvious signs of mineralization that would usually attract the attention of miners.

I agree. I would have gone through that area with a comb. I think you're right about it being for tv,but tom k said on fb that they edited his interview to show something other than what he said. I don't know how much editing they did,but they may be doing the same to the guys on the show.
My interpretation of waltz comes from a doc. I saw on oeta in tulsa. The doc was very clear on the attitude prospectors had against. Miners. In the end its just my opinion. You could be more right than I.

this is the 21st century and with cameras there no less.

I enjoyed most of the last show but really hate the sit down
meetings.
I'm surprised the producers didn't make them come up with a childish name for the place.
Like the Money pit producers made them say war room

I still think all should be filmed outside. Without the added drama of mistrust.
If they really didn't trust each other would they trust TV producers ?

I honestly thought that it was impromptu at Bobs request. Now I can't tell.
It still amazes me when I see men and women checking their pistols at the local watering hole in Apache Junction.
Now nothing seems real.

Yes entering a Bar , watering hole, saloon whatever, I do believe checking your guns should be the Law.
& I hate laws . But being I have spent many years working the Door and time behind the bar,
I know what Alcohol does to peoples senses.

I don't believe sober friends & acquaintances really do that except to show off.

Now either Bob is a Drama Queen, or the producers are .

I don't know if I should say this or not.

I would say that Bob was acting out of habit. I ran into him at the bar. Never said a word but looked me up and down then nodded. That was it. He is a presence in the room. Like a Hemingway or a polar bear. Great voice, great hair, and a great businessman (25% owner in any treasure they recover in episode 5). He also films well.

I still don't understand why Waltz never put in a claim on his mine, but there are certainly some plausible theories out there. I just don't think anymore that timing of the Roger's District being worked means that Waltz's mine (or source of gold) wasn't in that area.

That's like telling the whole world where your treasure is! And they will surely flock there if you file it.
Sure, its taking a chance that someone will file it, and keep you out, but if it is very remote, that is not likely, as in this case.

Waltzs comment about miners was a put down. Waltzs considered himself a prospector. He and other prospectors considered miners to be below them in intelligence. So he was saying miners were two stupid to find it. The same for the cowboy comment.
If the mine is in a two room house with no roof. Then it will be found one day.
