There have been some awful bad opinions tossed out regarding some on-line artifact markets. In an attempt to get a better understanding of just what does get bought off e-bay or sight unseen (except for on-line pics) from other on-line sites, I think it would be a good idea if people would show what they have bought and tell what they have experienced buying from such sites. Show the good and bad ones so we can get an idea of just how bad it really is.

My main collecting area is KRF pieces from the Dakota's, I buy them after hands on examinations. I also like some of the other types from the surrounding greater North Central, and High Plains region. I buy those without handling, relying on other methods. I've bought and sold very much on the bay, and never had a ding on my feedback from any artifact I sold.

Since my collection has been accused of being heavily contaminated because I buy so much, I will show what I have of my computer finds, and they are about 90% from e-bay. And please, if anything looks fake, or even suspect please let me know, so I can get them out of here.

For some reason you are the only one able to post a pic.
Although I did want to ask if you put them under a scope when you get them? I also try to stay away from the white ones from what I hear they are the easiest ones to fake. Is that correct iyo?

Lucky me! Only one with pics eh? They should be getting some looks then huh?

I only scope them if I feel the need. Or just to study something of interest.

I don't see many fakes so I am not the one to ask.

So rock, does it appear to you from my e-bay finds here that my collection is severely tainted because of them.

Well I can't see them haha or post them lolol

I dont buy from e-bay so I cant really say what is sold there. I do buy from pawn shops though. I use my loop when I look at a collection. Every once in a while I will see a suspect piece and will just set it aside. It does happen when people add to their collections but not real often. I also dont try to buy the most expensive items which I believe are faked more often. I do view e-bay sometimes and think most dont really know what they might have.

The first thing that apparently you're not taking into account is that the people who are making reproductions today are very very good at what they do they even use chemicals to produce the same compounds that buildup on an ancient artifact only they can do it at a very quick rate... These processes fool the microscope and chemical tests.
For you to think you can post a bunch of photos to make yourself feel more secure about your collection doesn't really do much other then show either a lack of understanding or blatant disregard of the facts as they are today.
Is this treasurenet or Ebay I'm having a hard time telling the difference.. If you're not on their marketing team you should be

There are a lot of really good flint knappers in Missouri that like to replicate Sedalia type points from Burlington chert. The modern ones are hard to detect. For that matter, they replicate many mid west types from Burlington. Go to almost any flea market in Mo. and you will see what I mean.

well you all have a good night Im going to watch tv. Ill be back on tomorrow, good night

Just what I thought. You couldn't find any.

Now, aren't you the guy who said ebay was full of fakes. You are also the guy that has a type and opinion on just about every rock that gets posted on here am I not correct?

Now, you ARE the guy that claimed my collection was very tainted because of these here rocks. and you ARE the guy that has been sticking with just about every thread I start or post in. PLEASE gator boy! stick with me here and give these rocks the same attention you give just about every other rock shown here. Please, give an opinion based on what you actually SEE, not what you have read or think just because it was me that posted them.

Y'all guys :))))))) I would absolutely love for us three go walk a field together I would have a blast ;)

I understand, they have great knappers in many places. But lets think this through. You must admit there are a lot of good pieces out there too. Last statistic I heard, only about 90% of the artifacts were still out there. Only 10% have been picked up. The real guys knapped for thousands of years out of neccesity, correct? How many modern knappers have been knapping for oh say the last hundred years?

There's way more good ones than bad ones out there, and I know someone else was just banking on the odds, so I will here too.:-)
I'd like to add, I do trust the opinions of Guys like Tom Davis, Rogers, Stermer, and a few others, and unless I see something I don't agree with, will take their opinions to the bank.

The site is having trouble posting and viewing pictures Quito. I posted about it earlier.

C'mon gb do what you do so well, tell us all you know about these rocks. You didn't have any trouble picking my other rock apart. What gives?

With modern flintknappers going to the lengths they do (certain ones anyway) to make points look period authentic, I don't think you can truly know if a piece is modern/fake or not unless you actually dig it yourself or you personally know the person (and where they dig) you are buying from or it comes from a known documented collection. A photo doesn't cut it, imho. I'm not really a "collector" but I have found several points over the years and have some interest in the field, that's my 2 cents fwiw.

I understand where you are coming from, but please consider the fact that there still are indicators that can't be replicated without being detectable.
