1776-1976 s Silver!

Ok so today I found in box #2 13 x 40% and 1 1776-1976 s Silver half in really nice shape! Picture posted but does anyone know what it is worth? Had 2 rolls that had two silvers a peice. HH Smitty.

Those Bicentennial silver halves are bueatiful. They are 40%ers. In good condition worth a little more than a standard 40% er. I have 3 of these all found in 1 tellers tray

Please explain to me how they are worth more than melt when they can be bought in the original mint packaging along with the quarter and dollar for melt.

That coin was only available in a set. which is cheaper to a collectors book?? buy the entire set of quarter / half dollar / dollar for melt or but a 40% half dollar a tad little bit above melt? IMO SantafeBoy is correct, check FeeBay yourself and see one sell above melt.

Thanks for the replies. Cant wait to get the other 2 boxes at the bank on monday, hopefully the other part of the collection is in there. Was really surprised to get that many keepers in one box for this area.

Indeed. But I would preface this by saying 40% bicent's split up from sets sell for a premium over spot whether they are on eBay or from a coin dealer's inventory. The coin's must be BU and free of blemishes to earn the premium. Once they pick-up the taint of circulation (fingerprints, nicks on the coin surface, rim dings, hairline scratches), then it is difficult to sell them over spot.

Still a very cool find at fv. They don't come around too often. It would go in my keeper pile not to be sold.

1970 D 40%ers also get a premium over melt. They often go for more than a '64 Ken and are actually the key coin for the Kennedy set. Just sayin'.
