Hi everyone...I havent been out too much lately, Working too much...Friday night did some research on an old colonial site ... So on saturday we headed out looking for the site....It took about an hour to locate the cellar...It only took 5 minutes to figure it has been well pounded....The first 3 hours only produced 4 shotgun shells...I was hoping to find Buttons...Buckles...Or a Copper...But this site was working out...We decided to stay anyways...Im glad we did, after 5 hours of hunting we dug about 6 targets each...My buddy got a nice colonial cufflink...I got a tiny thimble...and just over an old stone wall..I dug this sweet 8 Reale...It is in great shape :icon_thumleft: The first 2 pics are from my buddys iphone uncleaned...Took it home and soaked the dirt off in water only...I am very happy with the way it turned out. :icon_thumleft:

Man that one sure is nice! :icon_thumright:

Can't wait to see the cufflinks. :)

That's one gorgeous coin man! :headbang:
Congratulations on your find!

Great looking example Brian. Nice to find one intact, as these were usually "quartered". Congrats...................Hogge :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

WOW! I just found my first Spanish not long ago what an exciting rush....I might of passed out if I seen an 8 reale in my plug. Lets see the cufflinks!

Depends where you are. I know of 12 8s from down this way but never heard of a cut piece of Spanish silver from any coin, not just the big 8.

Thats oneof the most beautiful coins I have ever seen! GREAT SHAPE! :icon_thumleft:

One of the first coins circulated in the United States. Certainly except for gold coinage, the most readily accepted anywhere in the United States. Oddly, not worth all that much, even in the exceptional condition I would call this coin.

One of the coins I would love to find someday. Everyone should have a list of dream coins!

Congratulations on finding such a beauty!

Spanish Reale coins were actually legal tender in the US until 1857. Our money is roughly based on the reale and was the system recommended by Thomas Jefferson. The Spanish Milled Dollar or 8 Reale was made up of eight "pieces of eight" worth 12.5 cents each. The expression "two bits" is still used today as a nickname for a quarter.

WTG, Bri...she cleaned up really nice. I am still so jealous of you.....

That's a great find :headbang:

I know from personal experience how much effort research takes and that more often then not (at least in my experience) it doesn't pan out, but when it does, it makes it all worth the effort

I'll vote banner too, that's a great old piece of American history ;D

HH,
Brian

Whats not to like about that :o

Colonial Massachusetts never disappoints the Colonial relic hunter living in that great state. :headbang: :notworthy: That site goes to prove that no ground is ever totally cleaned out. I bet you dig a copper or two there. :icon_thumleft:

Kirk :hello:

Sweet find!! It pays to hunt those "hunted out" sites. If the guys that were there first only knew what you found after they were done..... :laughing7:

You say that, but they might have been happy with the 10 they found...

Sweet piece of 8, Brian.
You've got my banner vote.
