Just wondering how you know the 1 reale is a fake? Nice hunt! Weight should be 2.7 grams standard.

The weight is right but mine is not silver. HH

ok, its not silver. We're wondering what makes you think that
This one rang up like a pop top from a soda can and none of the silver reales come in that low on my machine. Ive never seen silver come out of the ground with a yellowish patina and also It is corroded and I tested it and it contains no silver. I will take better close up pics, I think its a modern counterfeit.

Ever reale I've dug and every reale I've seen dug using the E-Trac read in that range.

A Half Real and a One Real Pistareen do read basically the same on detectors, the smaller size of the Half Real accounts for some of the lower reading.
However a milled Bust One Real does read higher due to size and silver content.

thats a sweet hunt coop! you are on fire lately man.somebody toss a bucket of water on him! :laughing9: :tongue3:

Makes sense since I've only found 1/2 reale's and have never seen anything other than a 1/2 reale dug.

Indeed it does look fake now that I see the close ups.

If your one photo is how it looked coming out of the ground, then I would say it is a legit coin.

The One Real is a Pistareen and made of debased silver, not the same as the Colonial American Spanish Silver, they were 93% Silver and 7% Copper, but the Pistareen is only 83% Silver and 17% Copper. They are also lighter/thinner, thus contributing to a lower reading on most detectors.

On my Explorer SE test I ran on readout numbers of Spanish Silver, the 1 Real Pistareen read low compared to a 1 Real from Colonial America.
Yr Grains Diam Ferrous Non Ferrous
1 REAL PISTAREEN 1726 29.9 20.0 7 26 83% SILVER 17% COPPER
1 REAL PISTAREEN 1721 36.0 20.6 5 27 83% SILVER 17% COPPER

SPANISH ONE REAL 1749 47.1 20.6 4 28 93% SILVER 7% COPPER
SPANISH ONE REAL 1748 49.6 20.3 4 28 93% SILVER 7% COPPER

The possibility exists it is a counterfeit, but if found with the other coins then I would doubt it would be a modern counterfeit, it would be more logical to be a period coin. but based on your photo, weight given, and the fact it is a pistareen I say there is a good chance it is legit.

Don
All true Don but the pistareen came in way to low and the tone was way off on this one. HH

I agree, I dug a Half-Reale yesterday that was hitting low in the pulltab range...So I may have to agree with Don and Jeff on this one, I think you got yourself a real, One Real Pistareen, congrats my friend!

Thanks Sentinel but mine came in way to low on my machine and the tone Id was way off. look at the video I posted. HH

Ok, we know it is 100% fake. I dont think there should be any debating that. So what is the metal?

I dont know anything about platinum except that people faked coins out of it because platinum was not a desirable metal back then. Its hard for me to understand a modern fake 1738 half pistareen in that yard.

Was hoping it was real for you my friend, that's too bad.

It doesn't look real to me, it looks like it may be cast. Here is a real 1738 one reale pistereen. However, I don't know that it is necessarily a "modern" copy.

The pillar style 2 reale is a nice find. You don't see many pillar style Spanish coins in the 1730s.

Nice Spanish 'Quarter'!
very odd to pull a real & a copy so close together, unless it was a period fake.
It does appear to be a modern cast copy to my eyes,
I'm no expert, but I do have a collection of modern Colonial copies.
I experienced the same kind 'sound effects' when I dug a 1962 nickel, then a 1944 right after :hello:
Mysteries abound

Great silver ! Your amazing year continues ! :hello2: M.R.
