5 years and hundreds of boxes later, here it is!! ☺◘*~_PICTURES_~*◘•☺

Hey folks, i've been a nickel searcher pretty hard for the last 5 years or so, but up until recently, i've had no problem obtaining regular mixed-date boxes until my main supply bank switched carriers to garda, since then, garda has been ALL 2012 nickels even to this day, for about 4-5 months now. I can only get circulated nickel boxes up north of me(about an hour) in a different area. I did a little road trip to get some nickel boxes last week and I guess it paid off!

I was opening a nickel box with hardly any pre 1960 nickels, out pops a beautiful coin from 1950, but knowing my luck, i was sure it would be from philly. Nope!! 1950-D!! it took 5 years and hundreds of nickel boxes, but i got it, in mint state(or near mint state) quality too!

now i only need 1938d and 1938s to complete my nickel collection from circulation!
thanks for reading,

That one was long awaited, 5 yrs, good job there Buff! I know that made your day! HH, Maverick.

You sure did! Congrats! I got mine in Vegas some years ago playing a nickel machine and searching the coins.

I'm not a nickel searcher but I take it that the '50 D is a key date?

congratulations on your find! you're gonna get that barber next right????

thanks folks... yup, 1950-D is the key date of the jefferson nickel series with only 2.6 million minted.

2.6million may seem like a lot, but compare it to the other years made around it:

1948- 89,348,000
1948d- 44,734,000
1949- 60,652,000
1949d- 36,498,000
1950- 9,716,000
1950d- 2,630,030
1951- 28,552,000
1951d- 20,460,000

just to clarify how the mintage is significantly less then the other years :)

Nice find! I got one from a roll in my till at work a couple months ago... Gotta be lucky to get one, they're tough!

Congrats! I don't know about 38S but 38D should be your next target. I just got one 38D a few days ago.

Nice. Didn't take me that long though. Been CRHING since february, and got 1938 D, 1938 S, and 1950 D in the same brinks box a month ago

wow, that's amazing. very low mintages, you must have gotten somebody's collection dump!! what condition were the coins in? all of my harder date nickels(except the 50d) are heavily circulated.
