The one piece looks like a broken knife turned spokeshave/scraper. You can see where the base is broken off. What is the large piece made of? It could be a large uniface knife or a preform. The pics do not show the edges well but it does show a platform. Nice finds and a area worth searching. Your going to need a base from a point to date these finds... as the previous TN replies suggest. I would dig a few more inches in this exact spot and see what comes up. And then start expanding outward. Good luck. Thanks for the pictures.

Large piece is made out of some type of flint

It's all flint I believe

It's NOT an Eden. Eden have collateral parallel flakes, making a median ridge. Also, your material has been heat-altered, this is not a common trait for any Cody Complex piece.

The point that Gatorboy showed is not an Eden either. In fact, I question it's authenticity.

Flint is good. But you really need to find a point to determine the occupation time. The flaking on tools are similar except for paleo IMO.

Thx ! I thought it had been heat altered

Offering an opinion is one thing... learning forum etiquette is another. Here are Eden and Scottsbluff points. I'd have to say you are my favorite in this forum right now. I could take you to the place it was pulled from the ground by the way.

The heat altered in prehistoric times ?????

Broken blade, point, or knife NC with spoke shaven added after broken. The material looks the same as some of my finds.

The angle is interesting...... ?

Interesting to me. I'll see if I can scratch around and find a couple more to take pics of. I have quiet a few, all at that angle with a notch. I thought they were broken, but what are the odds? 10 notched pieces from 5 sites with the exact same break. Must be made like that.

Just for everyone's general knowledge...his info is only half correct...he is referring to the western sub type only. If you would like to learn the whole truth about the type this is a good read. Perino Knows a few things. www.lithicsnet.com/scottsbluff.htm

No gator, the information is correct for all of the Cody complex pieces. None of them are made from intentionally heat-altered chert and they are all made from collateral, parallel flaking (even Firstview). Eden have an even more prominent median-ridge than scottsbluff (they are typically diamond-shaped in cross section). Art Gumbus (lithics.net) is mistaken about random flaking.

For what it's worth, none of the latest 3 points that you posted appear to be Eden. The top one is Scottsbluff, the middle one is debatable (it appears to be more of a Holland form), and the last one is Scottsbluff.

Did prehistoric people heat alter they're tools???

Grobb28 - at least one of the pieces appears to be Florence "A", are these by any chance from Northern Oklahoma or Southern Kansas?
