I wanted to hunt yesterday and did not feel like driving far, so went behind my house to do the old woods road. It is a pretty big piece of woods. But have lived here for so many years and know the woods well. Never felt afraid or uncomfortable before.

Well, I was out for maybe an hour and got a penny hit. I dug an Indian Head penny. While I was on my knees digging, I got this feeling that I was being watched. I swear my hair lifted on the back of my neck. Took my headphones off and stood up. Nothing. But the feeling would not go away. It is pretty open this time of year and you can see pretty well. I did not stay longer and walked back home. Anyone ever have this happen. It was scary.

Bad things sometimes happen in the woods....best you left. What did it hurt to leave, right?

Occasionally. Just normal heebie-jeebies. Goes back to the days when saber-toothed tigers took care of our cousins that didn't stay a little paranoid.

One day I had a feeling I was being watched - and I about jumped out of my skin when I saw eyes on a tree - well, in a tree. By the time I got my camera deployed he had flown to a different tree. Nice, big 'ol owl.

I wear a Detector-Pro Rattler headphone - one ear. Even in parks, usually. That lets me keep an ear out for surprises.

Yeah, anytime I'm out and get that feeling it's time to move on to another place, especially if I'm by myself in the woods. No questions asked, as I trust my intuition.

There are a small handful of places that just give me the creeps, like I'm being watched. No idea why these places are different than most other areas I search, maybe just the location. I still go anyway, I figure what the heck can happen? Besides, a serrated edged lesche digger is a scary looking weapon.

Thus, I always carry along my friend Mr. Springfield Armory XDsubcompact.

ETA: I just noticed your in NJ so, no Bill of Rights for you. In that case yes...ALWAYS follow your intuition! Best to book it outta there & come back another day.

I get scared when Im hunting with someone...scared they are going to find something good. :laughing7:

I had an event like that in my own yard here in N. Texas. It was back in 2010 when I just got into the hobby. I happen to be afflected with a terrible sleeping problem and I'd take the detector all hours of the night in my front yard out in the country. Well, I was out one night about 3am, not that uncommon of a time for me. I felt the same sensation of being watched or stalked, then later while I was down digging a hole, I thought I saw a flash of something by the treeline out of the corner of my eye. I called it quits and went inside the house.

I bumped into my next door neighbor the next day and asked a question about why he was keeping his horses up front and not letting them range in the back acres and he told me that there were reports that a mountain lion was in the area. I will always wonder if that was what I sensed that night. That was a weird feeling.

Sometimes I can pick up on when someone else is hunting an area . I deer hunt too but it is a surprise when thinking no one is around and then finding someone out. Once almost walked under someone in full camo in a tree before spotting him. No biggie but would have skirted him had I known. Then too I have had people not hunting become startled when I said hello...
Not saying someone is hunting near you but agree you can "feel" being watched at times by someone or something.

ALWAYS follow your intuition/gut feelings

I am never alone, its me and my sidearm (Sig P232 or Taurus TCP in the future). I don't worry because I know I am prepared for any situation. I learned that in the Scouts! "Be Prepared"........never forgot it.

I was hunting the edge of a school yard, near a small cluster of older homes, and I found a live 357 shell.....odd I thought.

Then I found 4 more in a small little area, and I felt like some one was watching me.....then I get a loud signal in a slight depression, just about the perfect size for a handgun. I was sure it was a pistol. I'm thinking murder weapon....murderer lives across the street....possibly watching me.....do I want to retrieve it?

I marked the spot, and came back a year or so later when I figured I was just imagining things, and the target was gone.

Any reason 5 live rounds would be there?

Not really scared, but cautious.

Way too paranoid! Its true, it could have been a weapon used in crimes. But you could be the hero, recover it, report it to the local law enforcement, and who knows, maybe it helps them open up some cold cases!

Iam a loner by choice.Last year in the woods swinging the coil I felt funny took off my headphones and looked up about 20 feet in front me was a big bear they all look big to me.We looked at each other and thank god went our separate ways. Now a lot of times in the wood I don't use my headphones.I will never forget that incident.

I've had that creepy feeling a couple times and have felt that I was being watched on one occasion and that's a whole other story for the paranormal forum

Happens to me sometimes late at night when I'm at home, sitting on the sofa watching television...

I often feel that way and it turns out to be females!! Ladies let me hunt!!

Tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of darkness I shall fear no evil.....for what evil doesn't kill me had better be able to out run me!!!

I used to hunt the forest preserve woods around Chicago all the time. . . half the time alone.
A couple of times I'd get out-of sort feelings when everything got silent. . . no bird chirps, no frog grunts,
so I'd get my berings and move to areas I was familiar with.

On a lighter note, one time hunting the woods alone I REALLY did get a feeling I was being watched. . .
when I turned around I was surprised to see a cat in the hollow of a tree that was recently cut by County foresters.
It was a Kodak moment I couldn't refuse.
