AT haters.

Hi Normset, I have sold detectors and got to play with many. I have about 19 units because I enjoy learning how to use them in all conditions. I have my favorites and they might not be yours or anyone else's, but to me it is about the fun of learning and just experiencing. There is no best or worst. Well maybe a lot of them are not so hot for some things. My results come from good research, persistence . I am always rethinking equipment improvements. We the People.webp

Great attachment I like it lol

I'm having unclean thoughts about my atpro :love7:
Time to get it wet then. Throw it in a lake and if it comes back it was meant to be. If it dont, well you get the idea. Just throw it lol.

haha...What a weak Statement you make....:censorsed: .After the hype wears off?...What..the fact I can detect in water, and pouring rain while my buddie with his Etrac is struggling to find a bag to cover his, then cant read the display once its covered?...Is that Hype?...And because you found Gold.....WOW...welcome to detecting....I find gold all the time...My hunting buddy with his Minelab finds gold....So whats your point?

Its great you found a machine that you are doing well with....And So did I...its called the AT-PRO

So I guess next on my list is to get the Diving Suit Avatar...lol

Let me know next time you are this way and want to hunt a lake with me....
I like a challenge. As for hunting in the rian, well even ducks know to get out of the rain. You like wet hunts more power to you. Most folks dont hunt hunt water, except for the beach. I dont see too many folks talking about beach hunts with a ATP.

What I dont understand is folks could get a AT Gold that has a higher operating frequency for a few more dollars. While taking a bath with your detector is a plus to you, most stuff found in water is in rough shape at best. The ATG at least allows you to hunt nuggets.

The ATP is a beginner machine, some folks just dont need anything else. I just dont buy the hype. The new ATX users are starting to post and I hear the same claims that make you scratch your head. Just keep it real.

Since I have not seen a ATP in the three years I have detected I cannot tell you how it compares to my other detectors. I dont do Florida and Ft Worth is too far away. But I see several post about how good Garrets customers service is, I havent had to use customer service for anything I own, except the PP. I am not happy about that. They should sell you two for what they charge for it so you have at least one working pp while the other is in the mail lol.

Its a shame new members get bombarded by Garret and dont get to know about the other machines. Since I do see several used atp for sale, I may have to get me one of those waterproof machines so I can shower with it. Im sure they do a good job, just keep it real.

Since I cant go there to give you a lesson I can make a video for you how to get the most out of your ATP. Og course nuggetnoggin and deepdiggerdan have already beat me to it. They use atp also. But if you watch the new dig fellas show, Bill Ladd will give a good schooling as he uses the ATP and the T2. Now why would such a schooled guy want anything other than a ATP? Keep it real and there wont be no hating.

Well.....After rereading your posts...I see what you are talking about...I do agree the ATP isnt the most advanced machine...In fact IMO the Minelab Etrac seems like an "Advanced" machine... i think the combo would be the great set for detecting.

I do understand what you are talkign about with the Garrett Promos all over TV and the internet...But I personally got the ATP because it was a Garrett ( which i was used to from my First detector ACE 250) and it was a waterproof detector...So i really didnt buy into the hype that you speak of ...But i do agree..this digging shows do show them alot, and im sure they promote sales out of the roof. But i found out how to use it properly, and i wont put it down until i get my etrac.

And as for Customer service...any issues i have ever had with them, they were fixing the problem right away, In fact i broke my arm cuff once, and they sent me 2 just incase at no cost

Garrett makes me feel warm and fuzzy :occasion14:

I'm so surprised to see this thread still going! Not surprised at Casca's supercilious tone though.

3 years now with the AT, I think-I got one of the first ones! In water, out of water, bounced off rocks, dropped from the truck, broke one coil-I said broke-great Garrett service. I don't hunt in the rain but sure don't worry about either. There well could be better out there, but for what I do this one detector has a good balance of capabilities. I would love to try an F75, a Fisher Gold Bug Pro and several other detectors, but I just don't have the funds to have more than one or two detectors at a time.

I've owned:
Scorpion
Infinium
Ace 250
Ace 150
Minelab Xterra 705
Minelab Excalibur
Tesoro Silver uMax

Here are my comparison thoughts!

Against Excalibur-AT isn't as deep and won't go as deep in the water, but it does what I need in fresh water and mild Texas beaches

Against Xterra-AT has response time that smokes the X. Loved the X, hated the response time! I think the AT is deeper than the X based on finds from hunting the same areas I had pounded with the X. I know there is one iron-infested old house that rendered the X a jabbering mess of jangled nerves and eardrums.. Can't wait to try the AT there if I get the chance to go again.

Against the silver-well, that's just not fair features wise. The silver is a deep detector but I didn't find it to be deeper than the AT.

Against the Scorpion-does the same job but swims and has better battery arrangement and easier GB...and iron audio!

That's what I got. The AT will be joined by a dedicated prospector at some point, and probably the infinium to cover tough beaches and prospecting with a PI. Are there better than those? Probably yes. Better for ME? Maybe. The AT will grow old with me-that's NOT a maybe.

You ask us to keep it real so "tHeRe wOuLd bE nO HaTiN n KeEp iT ReEl" but it sounds like you're the one coming down on the ATP crowd. You also make preposterous statements that ATP owners take baths with their machines. You also claim that new users do not get to know about other machines.

No one here said anything even remotely close about the machines you use, perhaps out of respect or perhaps just didnt want to stir up a poop storm.

I have the ATP and I have never taken a bath with it, just to set the record straight. I also happen to be one of the "new users that do not get to know about other machines", by the way, I DID get to know about other machines due to the not so obvious fact that we live in the internet age and tons of information is at our fingertips. I did a ton of research before buying the ATP, why I bought the ATP? Because I didnt know if I would like this hobby and didnt feel like sinking a few grand for something I might do for a week and then drop it.

For the money, the ATP is a very capable machine for an average metal detecting hobby enthusiast. And it is not a beginners machine either, thats your 150s and 250s and it has a 100+ hour learning curve, so please do not call it a beginners machine.

While I have not taken baths with my machine, I often hunt in the rain because some locations are always full of people (dog parks) when it is not raining. I have a friend who I go hunting with who has a Whites MXT and if it starts drizzling he is looking for cover while I keep on swinging, the fact that it is waterproof is not a fact you can laugh at.

Also, your signature sounds like an AD for F75, which would really explain your disposition on the ATP, if you are selling Fisher machines or profit from their sales in some other way, good for you! But please be polite to others. Right now you sound like a snob in a 1990s Jaguar sedan looking down on someone driving a new Benz.

Drop it.
You are absolutely right, what was I thinking getting a AT Gold, you just talked me out of it. Thanks for saving me some cash.

When a ATP user starts a ATP Hater thread, and I have a supercilious tone? I dont post on here for you ATP owners, I post for the new guy so he isnt disappointed later thats all. I think its great you love your ATP, so why you on a ATP hater thread?

Because he can be on any thread he wishes that is why. The ATP was my first Garrett. I like it for what it is and the price. I hunt in creeks with it. Aqua Chigger on youtube helped me pull the trigger on one.
If you want to see one hunted with well check out his videos.

I do not know anyone who showers with their machine. That is childish talk. My only draw back so far is the recovery speed on sweeps. I tend to hunt fast and when I hit a target I like to sweep it fast and not wait for the processing to catch up. It has slowed me down some but it has also recovered targets I missed with fast beep machines like Tesoro.
Water can actually save many targets by keeping them wet compared to being in a field with fertilizer. Even iron in mud can come out in very good shape.

A quick note concerning detecting behind someone else with a diffrent detector and comparing the two units (making sure things are apples to apples). This may and can play quite often into missing targets with one guys detector and finding the target with the other guys detector that's following him. Over the years I have seen two to one guys that have not as good or a poor swing style and they miss a lot of ground between each coil pass during there swing, more common than one might think. This allows the guy coming behind to find the target thinking the other guys detector missed it. Unless you have the other guy varify with his detector the missed target in the ground before you dig it. Well you just can not know for sure if it was the detector or the guy just missed the target with his coil swing as he went over it. This may not have been the case in your situation I was not there. Did you guys varify both detectors while the target was still in the ground un-dug ?? Both those detectors are fine units. Best Regards & Happy Hunting, Bill G
I absolutely agree with your statement. I guess I should clarify mine. The AT Gold with the 5x8 DD coil when hunting very junky areas in Montana has continuously outperformed the ETrac with the standard coil. (I am not a minelab user, so I don't know if other coils are available or not). Also we do ask each other to run their machine over a questionable target, sometimes with mixed results. Here again I think the smaller coil is what makes this machine. And I know someone will say it won't get as deep. Absolute rubbish, in this type of soil we have 10"-14" is not uncommon. With that being said I believe the ETrac IS a superior machine in the correct hands, it should be,its double the money. However, in the areas we have been working lately I have been nothing short of impressed with the AT Gold and will gladly hunt next to a top of the line machine. After all isn't this hobby about getting outside, meeting people and having some fun. Happy hunting

Welcome aerodriver1. It is all in learning your machine having fun and making new friends. Glad to have you.

...Yea...me too

If you want a lesson watch his videos . I think Garrett was so impressed they asked to go hunting with him. He is atpro all the time. People say things do not last in water have never hunted water.

Wow thats impressive he is good

The worst part of this silly thread is that the op never piped in once about his one hit wonder.

Thanks for the clarification, very informative. Happy hunting to you guys sounds like your having a lot of fun.

Thank's,

If you can't stop this bickering, I am gonna pull over and separate you! If that doesn't work, I"ll make you hug in public!

Well actually I did. And quite honestly I didn't have to... I am quite amused by watching people argue and bicker. And besides... I also have a minelab now... Usually only use the ATP for water or when someone who doesn't have a detector would like to try it out.....

I'm not going to bash the AT models because I plan on getting the AT Gold after researching both models.
Maybe some of the sellers can pipe in on my question.

What percentage of AT models sold are the Pro? I might be off but it seems to me that 9 out of 10 people get the AT Pro.
