This afternoon I was at an old site that has given up nothing but trash. This was my first signal of the day and I suspect this is trash as well. But, before i send it to file 86, I want to be sure. Any ideas on what this might be part of?

Ok, I guess it might be worth a trip back to see if i can find the rest of the pieces. The yard is pretty small but the trash is unreal!

Um... don't throw away...

I will check a few things... looks like a cast defect.

Just to be known... I will throw this out there...

This design IS known as "The Great Seal Of The United States".

Looks like what's left of a medal of some sort. Not civil war but maybe WW1 or 2

BEFORE you THROW anything AWAY ~~ Get a box and call a Save Box. Then ANY ITEM you have questions about put in that box for at lease a YEAR after a year go back over items in that box.You will be amazed how many items you can identify and it especially helps if you keep checking out on the net others postings . Just looking at other postings may bring the identity your items.

I do keep lots of things but in this case i was unsure. So, i wanted to double check first.

After looking real close, I do believe the lettering under the Eagle is in fact a "C" and a partial "S" leading me to believe the third letter would be an "A"

The problem i am having is...I can't find anything out there with the Great seal of the united states and a CSA attached to it.

I did find this image on a google search but no other references.

In one talon are arrows signifying war and in the other talon is an olive branch for peace. I seem to remember, at a certain time in history, the arrow and olive branch were reversed and this may help date it. Or maybe it was the head that turned? I cant remember
