Got permission to detect an old saloon/mercantile opened in 1882 near Willcox AZ two days ago. Lots of trash in the yard, in fact nothing but trash. Then the owner said "Check out the old cellar under the store, its got a dirt floor". Went down there, it was really dusty and dirty, had to pull some construction lights down there to be able to see. Wasn't finding anything but old nails until BAM! solid quarter signal in the back corner of the cellar. Dug down through two inches of dirt, hit about and inch worth of old weeds/sticks/bark that the old timers must have used to line the floor. Under that was my first Barber Quarter, a 1907! I was really excited. Then I got another hit, 3 inches from the first, another silver! Long story short, I found all the coins in that back corner in about a 3x3 area. Lots of firsts for me! Havent been able to get them all cleaned up yet to figure out the dates, but it was an amazing day! I'll keep this updated as I figure out exactly what I found. Thanks for looking.

Finds from today: 2 Standing Liberty quarters, two Barber Quarters, four Mercury dimes, one silver Roosevelt dime, two buffalo head nickels, 4 wheat pennies, one smaller coin, I think its an arizona tax credit, 1 old bullet.

that's great!!! hope these coins prove to be either key dates, or in great condition.....or both!

Great pictures!

Great hunt! Fantastic story~

If you land in Denver or near Edwards AFB in CA in the next week or two, look me up.

Will do GIB. Nothing scheduled right now. And I hope they're key dates and in great shape too...just have to figure out how to clean without killing!

Congrats on some nice recoveries

Awesome digs. All that in a 3 by 3 area. So cool, hunts most dream about. Congrats on living the dream.

:notworthy: I am soooooo not worthy. Congrats!

Great story. congratz !

sounds like a great day...enjoy those days only com a few times a year anymore!

Very nice finds. I hunt old homesteads in the desert mountains and find many interesting things. Rare to find a coin though.

Congratz on an awesome day! That would definitely qualify as a best day ever!

Best day ever? You did amazing, found incredible things and I congratulate you. But my best day ever was when my buddy and I were picked up one day (years ago) by three hot, young latinas and entertained all afternoon. Now that was my best day ever and I just wish I had pictures, although displaying them would probably violate the rules here.

Captainkirk,

Soak the silver coins in some fresh lemon juice and that should get rid of the worst of the staining and given you a chance to date them....wtg on the finds.

Regards + HH

Bill

Should clarify, best day detecting.....not latinas, but I've had some good days!
