The Black Great Dane lived on Polly Wolly Road. First house on the right ! :laughing7:

LOL!! I love it!!!
You must live nearby to know about Polly Wolly? For the others.. this is a cove on Lake Ocoee that's been a favorite swimming hole for a very long time.

OK, with that said.. I firmly believe Kuger is a "Know-it-all"!! I'm not trying to be "cute", I do believe the man knows what he's talking about.

I also believe we have a few Black Cats in this area... and they maybe someone's pets? I do know for a fact what I saw was a large black cat and not a Great Dane!:laughing7:

Roaddust66, this is for you...

Squig,I have to warn you, those books are by lion hunters....they were and are the foremost lion experts to ever live. They were back in a time when there were no hidden agenda's or behind door deals on how studies were going to come out...we are in different times now.

I am very familiar with the Santa Cruz Mtns......I worked in Monterey County for 11 years. You may recall a lion that was hit by a car on Moody Curve Hiway 17,around 2003(?)That lion was critically injured and I had to put it down(we shut the hiway down)The lions in the Mtns..........lets just say they have more lions than the ones they "say",they have....I was responsible for treeing those study cats so they could replace the batteries in the collars...and treed more cats then they had collars......but I knew that before we ever set out.....I also pursued a Red Fox that was biting people in Neary Lagoon Park...boy was that an event....nother story!!!

Oh.....I want to also add........California likely has the highest population of lions in the nation, and in you are VERY fortunate to have seen 2!They are extremely stealthy,as you said, and I promise you have been watched many times

.and I beleive you.....I guess you and I have went in a circle!!:laughing7:....I hope maybe Ozark and I can as well.....I am not here to fight,be called names,or to sell anything. My job is to further the facts as I know them,as mentioned we live in a time where politics are controlling outcomes of studies being done, and true facts are being discarded to further paid off agenda's,it breaks my heart because it is the animals that in the end will suffer.Man has screwed up the natural balance of all so bad that we have to be involved to try and bring some kind of center back......unfortunatly we are going the wrong direction

Thanks Kuger for the heads up regarding the books.
How fortunate you are to have worked so closely with those animals! :)
I am curious who you worked for when you were down my way..fascinating!

question.......somebody please tell me,how a person who knows an answer to something,is supposed to give that answer and not be accused of being a "know it all"....???
If I knew it all I could give you an answer. :dontknow:

Black panthers might not be real but that Patterson Film is.

Kuger,

I don't discount your knowledge, experience and everything you have learned over the years! However, how can you and many others discount the literally thousands of reported sightings and the linked video I provided??!! Surely not all of these folks were crazy or mistaken in what they saw! If there is no such thing as a Black Panther, then tell me where the name/designation came from, what kind of Big Black Cats were filmed in all of those Tarzan movies and Jungle Book (non-animated) movies about Mogli?? Did someone tranquilize them or hold them down long enough to dye their' fur black?

I have heard both Foxes and Coyotes scream and what I heard on English Mountain in Sevier County, Tennessee was neither! I can only describe it as being the most blood curdling scream of a woman being stabbed. Also, I know that my friends parents as well as most of the 11 kids that were still living at home (they actually had a total of 14 children) saw the Big Black Cat (not a domesticated cat) eating from the dog's bowl off of their' back porch close to the foot of English Mountain. I believe that they even have or had a photograph of the Big Black Cat but I lost touch with them many years ago and the parents and several kids have since passed away. Maybe one of these days, I will be able to track them down and borrow the photograph and get copies made. The following links below are links to quite a few of the stories of the existence of Big Black Cats.

Ruminations from the Distant Hills: Black Panther Sighting

This will be my last post on this Thread as I see no point of beating a dead horse! However, if in the future, I obtain or take photographs showing clear evidence of these so-called mythical creatures, I will start another Thread and post the pics.

Frank, thank you.First of all I never said that Melanistic(Black)cats do not exist...I stated fact that there are not herds of them or breeding populations like you stated there was.Second Leopards are what were in Tarzan Movies and are not native to North America.....There has never ever been a black Mtn lion killed in the US(if they existed in the wild one would have surfaced by now),and I hate to tell you but panther is a regional name for cougar or puma or Mtn lion.
I feel like this has been the movie Ground Hog Day......from statement one,I have said......there are not herds of black cats running around, that Melanism(which exists in all mammals,I caught a Melanistic raccoon once, and have seen several melanistic deer)is rare but occurs most often in jaguars and Leopards(neither of which are native to the East)and that there is a high likely hood that the black cats yall see back there are escaped pets. One other interesting point is its odd that the majority of the entire population of big cats in the US exist west of the Rockies and we seldom hear about these Black cats here. Its kind of like Bigfoot....why are they not killing at least one of these black Panthers out there??I am officially done with this thread as well.If yall want to go against science, fact, and Biology, and believe in myth's have at it....I am a realist

geeze...i'll never be an expert according to those requirements...
I am a professional student...nothing more...show me

def. of expert; someone who is knowledgeable or skillful in a certain area. Oxford English Dictionary

I think that we all can agree that we are not going to all agree. We should have an expert run a metal detector over a catamounts head and tell us by the sound if its a black breed or melanistic:) There, that puts the thread back into the realm of metal detecting.

........also there was a retired Warden that piped in agreeing with everything I have said....he must not know what he speaks either.....

Hi Kuger. I have enjoyed the heck out of all this. Brought back memories of the good ole days. I once had a lady complain of a mountain lion eating her cat. I asked her to describe it and she described, in detail, a mountain lion. She showed me tiny little cat tracks. When I questioned her further she got huffy and said she had a picture of it. It was a picture of her cat! I knew then that trying to convince people otherwise was futile.

Of course lions do exist.

I'll say it again; ditto to all Kuger has said. It would be fun to sit around a campfire and exchange stories of cats and cat people with you, unless you are in your melanistic phase:)

Indeed Mr. Bardwell, some great stories for sure........myself and a co-worker I know you know reported to a call that a lion was in the act of attacking a horse.....by the time we arrived the husband had killed the cat....yes....it was a cat all right..............it was a big housecat....and it wasnt attacking the horse...I always enjoyed the calls where folks would describe what they seen by huge visible testicles......news for our readers here.......mtn lions do not have visible testes..even black ones

In closing I would like to add this link.....featuring a Melanistic Jaguar, that a 1 in a thousand through genetic engineering/breeding in captivity threw a melanistic cub....I would also like to point out the "facts",to the right of the picture....

it seems the link broke.....so here are the listed facts
[h=2]Top facts[/h]
  • The jaguar is the biggest cat in the Americas
  • 'Jaguar' comes from the native Indian name ‘yaguara’, meaning ‘a beast that kills its prey with one bound’
  • Black or melanistic forms of the jaguar are relatively common, often called ‘black panthers’
  • The jaguar is crepuscular, which means it is active at dawn and dusk

They just found a Saber Tooth Whale here......maybe a BLACK Saber toothed Cat is next!!!

just my luck to be out on the pourch at night, feel a kittie rubbing around my ankle, and look down to see a black saber toothed monster smiling up at me...

Kuger.. Kuger.. Kuger.. now you know darn well you like this thread! The only thing missing is a camp fire and a bottle of rum!:laughing7:

Black Pather isn't a bread... it's a condition of being Melanistic(black)!

Example... I have a very good friend who thinks he's white... but he's really melanistic!:icon_scratch:

Good question Kuger. ..we actually saw it running away from the area where the screams came from..now I guess it could have killed something, but even as a child I remember hearing the sound in the dark. ..is it possible that it depends on what area they are in? I sure don't know...

Kuger? Do you think pouring wolf urine at the entrance to my barn and woodshed would deter raccoons and opossums from going inside and making a mess?

B. where can a guy in INdy get wolf urine?
