Thanks for posting this Oakview2! This case is pivotal in getting our dredging rights back in California and will certainly impact any future cases in Oregon if they attempt to stop suction dredging there.

Yes - my reply was meant as response to Sawyer's post. Sorry for any misunderstanding - Hefty1 and I have worked together on many issues.

Concerning the article in WMA's newsletter - The dredge cost $30,000, and for a time it produced an average of 2 POUNDS of gold per day in Calif. northern counties. I hardly think that's a hobby. For you mechanic enthusiasts there is an interesting breakdown of how the dredge is put together, including grab-hooks for helicopter transport.

Guilt trip ? - maybe, but I've noticed that a lot of members here spend a hundred dollars or more on their outings, to collect maybe $50 or less worth of gold.
That's fine - cause its more about the experience than monetary gain. But to pretend everything will work itself out on mining rights issues, without your involvement, is a little irresponsible, imo. On the other hand, a small donation to the cause, say 5% of your weekend expenses, will allow your conscience to be clear, and down the road, no matter what happens, you can say "well, at least I tried".
