Broken but still pretty awesome.

These are the things I picked up over the weekend. The blade I found this morning. It's a real heart breaker fkr sure, but I'm very happy to have it. Very thin and still extremely sharp - petrified wood. (Ithink.)

Also a shaft wrench, drilled mussel shell bead, a small chert point/drill, scraper and some unique design pot shards (at least for this site).

And I awlmost forgot it and I'm starting to lose count, but I think this is #27.

Thank you. The shiny piece in the photo isn't obsidian, it's petrified wood (I think). I made it wet to bring out the detail in the piece.

Are you 100% that isn't obsidian? It sure is pretty regardless!

I knew right away it was not obsidian (100%) but I wasn't sure about it being pet wood.

I do have a pet wood hammer stone that is black. I call it a hammer, it may have been a lithic blank. I'll snap a shot tonight and add it to this thread. It is black with that gloss about it. I suppose if it were napped out, it would be slightly transparent. I have a hardaway/dalton point that I listed on here as obsidian. I think I owe TN. Mountains an apology on that one. He said it was probably dover chert and I stood my ground on obsidian. After reading and looking at obsidian pics, I know I was wrong. I still don't know if he was right either, but closer than I was.

That's a mighty fine artifact T Wilko. Better keep your eye on the location
where found as there's good chance the rest of it is still there.

Good Golly! That sure is a beautiful piece of petrified wood. Very well worked, and such a shame that it is broken. As suggested, you might want to consentrate in the immediate area and see if you can find the other half. Your other finds area very nice.

Here is a chunk of pet wood I found. Could it have been used as a blank for making points and knives out of?

That blade would have been something to see. I always wonder why they did not work them into something else. Maybe they were so bummed it broke thought it was bad mojo to try to do anything else with it. Cool finds all of them..

the wood grain seems to be apparent in the light

we find plenty of re-sharpened pieces
most common is an arrow point that was made into a drill because it had a tip fracture
that broke could have been used for something just the way it was
in my opinion with so much good KRF, agate, chert, bone, and jasper available there i don't think they worried to much about it

Since these fellows are hunting agricultural land my thinking was the piece may have been complete and broken by farm equipment, thus the other piece(s) may be nearby.

On the other hand, if Steve and his john deere's weren't plowin', this half would likely still be down there somewhere.
