I have not seen a single post... (not that I see everything posted)...

BUT SHEESH... If I were anywhere near a "dry" lake or pond... or dry any body of water ...

I would be working the HELL out of them...

Someone here has got to be... and just not saying.

REALLY would love to read and see some cool pics and posts...

No doubt. Best summer I ever had was during a drought in a dry lake bed.

I bet man...
I have worked a few over the many years...one during a drought many years ago... record low river...
Went to a well known huge tree "rope swing" area...
My biggest problem was how to get it all before it got dark.
Was like a fever... ranks high as one of my best hauls.
I ate good that month :)
Mack daddy day ... yes it was :)

I'd go down to lake oroville and try but I'm pretty sure they would nail you to a wall if you got caught.

Well I do not recommend breaking the law to do it...

I am sure they implemented those restrictions so THEY can hunt it :)

You have no idea how many fantasies I have had about buying a coin/jewelry dredge and traveling around the country looking for old swimming holes...

There has to be. But makes sense if you don't do a lot of posting about it if you don't want to start another gold rush.

there has been little rain out in this part of kansas and
a lot of ponds have totally dried up
Im going to ask for premission a lot here soon
to detect as many as i can before they fill up again!!!!

I sure hope someone is! One of my best years was in Denver when they had a drought & they pumped water from the ponds & lakes in the parks to water the grass. As the water receded it revealed more virgin area every couple days. Close to 9,000 coins, almost 14 pounds of fishing sinkers, two cell phones (trashed) more toy cars than you could count, a Tupperware of jewlry. And needless to say a couple of wiped out knees. That was three days hunting. It's virgin turf out where it'd normally over your head.

Can you say bonanza?

All of the swimming holes and beaches that I frequent still have water and are relatively the same.

The part of CA that I'm in, is chaparral terrain. Ie.: "boom and bust" cycles. So our lakes here, for starters, aren't very clean for swimming. But those that are, and have swimming zones, have been down multiple times over the decades. Ie.: drought in the late 1970s, another in the 1980s, and so forth. So these are not the first times they've "been down". So in a lot of the more obvious spots (the heavily trafficked party/swim lakes) were hit already in the past, during previous lows. Granted, the current drought has exceeded those prior lows though.

I got onto a stage stop location revealed below a reservoir in my area, and got a seated half dime & silver pocket watch. My buddy got an early IH. But as for swimming areas, I'd have to travel to other parts of our state. Like up at the foot-hills of the sierras type terrains. I haven't heard any astounding stories yet though, oddly.

If any of you Ca. guys are by any chance headed up Bishop way there is an area you could try this year. It is called, Klondike Lake. My brother hit it one time when DWP took it waaaaay down. Lots and lots of coins. But, in them days we were mostly into homesteads so we didn't seriously hunt it.

Well, my brother passed away last June and I now live in VA. So...If you are headed up around Bishop send me a PM and I can give you TONS of info on places of, "interest" within the Bishop area. Farthest being probably, 13 miles from downtown.

I bet you would find old bottles too. I would dream of that kind of hunt

Over in Beach And Shallow Water forum...bluediamonds posts some nice gold that comes from the low lakes...he just posted a 15 gram gold ring.

Up here in the sticks, just north of ya, everything below the high water mark is State (Orygun) land....ya might check it out??

I'll have to look into it. I know a guy got nailed for picking up arrow heads from the lake a few months ago.

That's just plain ridiculous...
Sheesh haven't they got anything better to do...
I mean what crapola... ITS AN ARROWHEAD !!! sheesh... made to kill stuff...
Like a bullet...
Why they have to "control" the picking up of an item that is LOST... kills me.
Sheeesh...
Would be different if the guy was excavating a burial mound for em....

This just never seems to make sense to me.

Ya I thought it was really ridiculous too. Waste of taxpayer money. I didn't see whatever agency in charge mounting an excavation while the water has been down to save these precious artifacts. Instead they turn people into criminals. It happened at folsom lake too I believe to a guy just carrying a detector on his shoulder while on dry lakebed.

All the Lakes around me are man made with the exception of one long standing natural lake that is fed by aqueduct from the Colorado river so the levels remain pretty consistent.
The man made lakes were made in or around the early 70's til now. Levels are down a tad but not much.
Swimming holes would probably be a great research project, however, with the Ocean at out doorstep the swimming holes and lakes are not plentiful.
