Change from McDonald's

Received a Buffalo nickel and 1951 Wheatie in change today at McD's. The penny has unusual notches front and back around the perimeters. I find that these establishments in the poor neighberhoods have older coins in the register. They usually dont know enough about coins to know their collector value.

They where change from a BK burger, fries and a Coke at McDonalds in Miami. I always look at my change for wheatbacks and silver. Been a while since I got a Buffalo nickel, even though it is a common date.

I find that the kids that work in McDonalds from the poorer ghetto neighborhoods do not collect coins or know the value of coin collecting. They are more concerned with daily struggles. I am not prejudiced, but these are my observations. Who is they? "They" is the low paying workers in establishments like McD's in poor neighborhoods ; just like I said. Take the tip or leave it.

Re: More Change from McDonald's

I decided to add this post to my old one. After buying breakfast, I noticed about 5 Eisenhower Dollars in the drawer. The lady shut it before I could request them. I said that I would like to buy them. She made me wait through every customer in line and then said she was busy. I sat down and ate my breakfast and continued to look at her for my request. She ignored me. I approached the counter, bought an orange juice, gave her a five and said please give me the "silver" dollars in change, unless you want to keep them yourself. She laughed and grudgeingly gave me 3 Ikes in change after looking carefully at both sides of each coin. (I guess making sure it says "one dollar" :-\). When I got in the car, I realized I got 2 Bicentenials and one silver 1971-s. ;D You can tell the color difference in the pic. I should have gone back for the other two coins but didnt want to bother with this woman anymore.

Re: Change from McDonald's

Keep checking Big C. I found an Indian Head cent last year in my change from a local Hess station. That same week I found a couple silver dimes from the same Hess. No good "change" finds since then though.

"They" are also the younger generation that has no clue about coins being made of silver once upon a time. ::) You are lucky if "they" give you back the correct change to begin with.

Re: Change from McDonald's

"THEY" probably took them out of a drawer where their mother or father had been saving them. THEY probably couldn't care less about old coins!

Re: Change from McDonald's

Nice finds!!! I always look at my change before spending and after receiving!!! I keep a little plastic coin holder (jar thingy) in my pocket and when I find a "Keeper"...I put it directly in there so I don't make the mistake of spending it!!

I have a young man at work who is bringing me one jar and 2 very old piggy banks full of coins!! He knows the piggy banks his grandmother has not touched in atleast 20 yrs...so he wants me to go through them and see what is in there.

He told me he is tempted to drop the change in a COIN STAR...Don't worry....I told him exactly how I felt on that suggestion!!!! >:( :-\ :'( ::)

He will bring them in tonight to work....I told him I would let him know what he has and even put them in coin holders, etc....he even said, if there are good ones, he may consider selling me the coins!!! COOL! Hope there are some good coins in this first jar!!!! Piggy Banks will come after I do the first batch!

Happy Change Hunting,
Annmarie

;D You reminded me of how old I am. Maybe you are right. She looked carefully at both sides of each coin before giving them to me.
I remember a lady at McDonalds wouldnt accept a silver certificate from a customer next to me. :o

Re: Change from McDonald's

You mean you got a Buffalo nickel WITH a date on it??? :D The best I could do this year was a dateless one I had to dig up!

Re: Change from McDonald's

Life IS funny sometimes.
Since I started MD'ing this summer, I've only found two Buffalos and a silver Washington quarter. . . in my change from Starbucks. . . both Buffalos had dates and the Washington looked almost new :o I would have rather dug them though :D

What was meant by this? Is it being implied that bigcypress made a offensive racial statment, Is this a joke ? were you offended ? what is the deal?
I mean I got it, He meant lower income employees (and in a hurry) dont pay attention to what treasure might be in the in the cash drawer. Funny how he said the gal was looking at the ikes as if she was being ripped off or something,
