Closing in on Indian Head Cent #1000

Dug a beautiful 1869 Indian Head cent today to bring my career total to 997. Just three to go to hit 1,000 dug in 32+ years of metal detecting. Bet these last three are going to be hard to find !

Hey my friend, that is one sweet Indian and worth some $$ if you were so inclined. I know a place that I could pretty guarantee you'd get those last 3, and Congrats when you do, wherever that may be! Hope you and Tony and yours are safe and looking forward to some Portuguese steak later this year (I hope!).

I'm all ears. I only need to find 972 more after 4 years of detecting!

Hello Jeff. Was just talking to Tony Sunday about a rode trip to Seated as soon as this pandemic is over with. I know I could could get the needed indian head cents there in a few minutes ! We're all doing well in NY riding this out. Still hitting the parks but they are surprisingly still very crowded. Hope you and the wife are doing well and hope to see you soon.

Those half cents are tough. I've only dug two and both were over 20 years ago. Where are you in the Southern Tier ? I'm in Schenectady county.

Still need the key dates 1877, 1908-S & 1909-s. Most common dates have been 1904 - 05 -07 with about 70 each.

That's quite an accomplishment Ed. Are there any dates that you have yet to find? What is the most common date that keeps coming up for you?

No 1877. Got close once. A friend dug one when I was about 50 feet away a few years ago.

All depends on the sites you're digging. Half cents are pretty common on sites dating 1800-1830. I've found about 25 half cents since I started in 1985, but only about 200 IHPs.

Hello, that is truly amazing. I can see where you would find so many out east, here in Nebraska we are lucky to find one Indian heads a year, not gotten one yet. You probably dig those like we dig Wheaties here...have you dug the elusive 1877 ? Great post !

Looking at my records I've found more 1907's than any other date.

Sweet 69'er, lower tones for me are usually modern memorial Lincoln's and I know I have dug over 1000 of them,, lol
