I know some dont collect Cores but if they look nice I will pick them up and carry them home. I like the flint ones that have color.
Here are some of mine and of course post yours please.
Thanks, rock

Explain this a little more what exactly is a core I found something similar to this ...

Rock, those are some sweet colors. You outta' knapp a couple points and see what a beauty can be produced. Or send a sample to somebody who could.

Beauty!

Here is one we call a horse hoof core from the Tn Valley region

Probably reduction pieces.

I hang on to the cores I find. I have a 5 gallon cooler full. Not only are they collectable imo but are good material reference to local lithics. I think it's also interesting to see what exotic materials found their way into the area. Alot of the chert cores I find have unusual center nodule features like quartz and other inclusions that were worked around and left into the core. I have found a couple of oolitic chert cores and they are probably my favorite.

Now that I got that ugly black and grey local chert out of the way how about some high grade Flint Ridge Hopewell cores?

Those Hopewell peeps sure could find the best stuff on the Ridge.

those must have produced a ton of nice bladelets

Here in Cen.Tx...I find alot of really large Core/choppers.....I will try to dig up some pix.

Here is a blade core. And another piece That has been worked down. I have loads of these from village sites. unless they look to be a specific type I just consider them all debitage honestly.

Those are some beautiful pieces! All the ones I have are mostly dark black with a bit of white or grey flint!

37, that is some real eye candy.

Are those heat treated or just naturally colorful.?
I am putting material under my next campfire and will be doing a little experimenting.

Thanks.
Somewhere here I have one that looks like it was used as a hammer stone. I'm trying to find it now.
A lot of these will show some edge retouching for use as small choppers or scraping tools.

This one is a big core black chert and it flat on the bottom and the other one I believe is a spear head core. Well uploaded out of order.

Here's some of mine:IMG_5616 (789x1024).webpIMG_5625 (683x1024).webpIMG_5640 (1024x751).webpIMG_5639 (1024x703).webpIMG_5630 (1024x779).webp

I leave them laying, it's my way of leaving something behind for future generations. But I would pick up those Flintridge Hopewell cores, those are nice!

If for not other reason..I pick them all up where I hunt so I don't have to look at them all again when I go back to find something better...just makes sence that way...unless you like flipping the same stone over numerous times.
