I am a type 2 diabetic. I have been for over 30 years. Last week when i got discharged from the hospital A nurse frrom myh Endocrinologists gave me a new Glucose meter. I took it home with me. My old meter was 3 weeks old. When i checked my glucose with the new meter it was 60 points HIGHER then with my 3 week old meter. This is how i checked my glucose.
1. wash my hands for at least 30 seconds in warm water.
2. put test strips on each meter.
3. Put in a new lancet in striker
4. wash my finger with rubbing alcohol
5. Put Test strips in both meters
6. Stab my finger
7. when blood comes out wipe it off.
8. Get second drop of blood
9. Stick meters on same spot of blood.
10. Get readings and at times there was a 60o to 65 point difference in the 2 meters .
I took both meters to my doctors office. My first meter (3 week old) was 2 points off of the doctors meter. They told me to use the meter close to there readings
according to the government the other meter still fell inside acceptable guidelines.
My point in this -post is to let people know of issues they may have.
YOU CAN NOT MONITOR your GLUCOSE to CLOSE !!! STAY SAFE 111

Had the same issue with a meter myself. I was suddenly reading
250-280 when it should have been 125(ish). After a couple days of
this I made an appt. with my doc to see what the heck was going on.
Before the appt. I tested with my wife's meter, and was 120 when the
other meter was saying 280.

Cancelled the doc appt. and ordered a new meter..:icon_thumleft:

Hey Gare,
I can't believe none of the doctors said to try the patch think you stick on your arm and read it with some device or your phone I see advertised on TV...I'm not diabetic but most of my family was before they passed, and they hated to prick their fingers.

It's a good idea to take whatever measuring devices one uses - diabetes, blood pressure, etc. - in with you to a doc visit and have them check against their machines.

I had a strange occurence but mine was on one hand it read about 100 points higher than the other hand. But it is now reading about the same in each hand, I stay down around the 120's, It's pretty well maintained now.

I take my meter with me every doctor visit. We do a head to head each visit.

I found out at 31 I'm now 56, been on shots for about 12 years now.

My meter has never been an issue, never more that 5 points different.
I rarely keep a meter longer than three years. I never change the battery, just get another meter.
I use the same cheap CVS meter.
The strips are more likely to be the issue than the meter, I was told.
Make sure you use them in order, first in first out.

Side by side comparisons is the only way to determine if the unit is reading correctly.
(Maybe it should be used more in testing the newest technology in detectors)
