"Diggers"

I've been watching this show and have to say that I'm enjoying it. I know that their reactions are way over the top which really annoyed me at first, but it's grown on me since then. My wife has even been watching it with me and has been asking all sorts of questions about coin hunting. In fact, she's even told me that she's interested in detecting with me.......which could be good or bad! Time will tell.

Wow!!! On tonights show they showed a 30-06 shell with a potential value of $15!!! I found 20 last week, where can I cash these in? Lmao

lol beat me to the real time play by play....still love the show...come on guys its not a detecting show it is a show about history discovered and added to with detectors...and diggers...production does screw it up a bit....15 dollar stripper clips and 30-06 cases ... my net worth just jumped a lot...

The show has it's good points and not so good points. Diggers is more realistic about this hobby. I would MUCH rather the public see what REALLY happens during a hunt, than watching that other moron dig up people's backyards with backhoes/bulldozers looking for friggin' megladon shark teeth 20 feet into the ground. I'd say the "damage" factor Diggers leaves in it's wake is minimal at best compared to American Digger. The potential value of stuff is ridiculous as it leads people that don't understand to believe that corroded coins and shotgun shell casings are worth $$$$. People complain about the goofy antics...well...IT'S TV!!! Let's face it, metal detecting...to simply watch, could be considered boring. Oooooh look...that guy is cutting a plug....oooooh. Will something come out? It's not like this is the most exciting hobby visually for someone just watching another person hunt.

This show is most likely not geared towards the old timey, miserable, md'er , who feels anyone showing human emotion towards a great find is a wart on the nose of metal detecting. Yeah, their reactions are a little over exaggerated, but who cares? Again, it's TV. I'd assume they are more interested in getting the hobby of metal detecting noticed by the masses more so than trying to impress/obtain the approval of the hardcore enthusiasts. If someone wants to watch a PBS version of the "serious" md'er, YOU TUBE has thousands of videos of guys that are about as entertaining as ball lint finding treasures of all kinds. I can get past some of the slightly annoying TV added stuff of Diggers because I like watching them find stuff.

It's funny that at first people complained about how these guys are destroying the hobby because of how they hunt places. Then archies come in and work WITH these guys and people STILL complain. I'd say the last few episodes are proving that this hobby is more helpful to the archie community than it is a hazard. Who cares if they have stupid catch phrases? They found the old Randall McCoy house so the archies could come in to do what appeared to be 10 x's more damage to the ground with their shovels than those two guys ever could have done, hahaha!! The selfrighteousness from those that make this hobby seem like a rigid CHORE instead of a fun HOBBY is more ridiculous than two guys having fun on TV. It's good to see them working with what is considered the more "professional" archie community as it does add some mature weight to balance out the "antics" of the stars of the show.

Just my 2 cents and a taco shell...

HaHa you beat me to it also :laughing7: is someone expecting brass to rise to $100.00 an oz ?
or someone desperate to reload hundred year old brass ? :tongue3:

I throw stripper clips and most brass out with the can slaw :icon_scratch:

was some cool coal scrip found.
the 10 center almost looked like play money to me,
I wish they would have had a perfect example to show what it said
on both sides.

They found the McCoy House???? They found an app. 6" burned rotten cube of wood with 1 cut nail in it, and it was pointed. Cut nails have square points, not pointed. They found an app. 1 ' sq piece of undefinable iron. The archies were thrilled to find a piece of flat glass about 2" in dia. I think if a house burned down there, they would have found a lot of iron cooking pots and pans at the very least. There would have been foundation stones above grade also. Hay, but it's only a show, right! Frank

I have not watched any of these detector shows of late what is there now 3 or 4.... I just can't take watching them

diggers is the only real one.

there are 2 others with detectors regularly being used.

The Rastler

&

the Swamp hunters.

but the rastler is an obvious phoney

& the swamp hunters keep using dynamite to dig supposed relics worth thousands

The archies said they believed it to be the grounds of where the McCoy house burned. I guess you are saying that they are wrong? You are an amazing armchair archie. You weren't even at that site and you know exactly what's going on....It's possible it's not the house, BUT, the McCoy house did burn on that property. You must be a REAL joy to hunt with....

I looked up this show because of this thread, as it got me curious. I must say it's a guilty pleasure to watch. Yes, they are goofy. And they ham it up for the camera, and they are a bit annoying at times. But their enthusiasm is refreshing, as well as their appreciation for the historical significance of their finds. It's leaps and bounds better than "boom baby" and finding bogus riches at every sight. I must admit, when detecting with my good friend we get excited over seateds and Indians much more than when detecting solo. And when I found a gold coin I was solo, and I was just as hyper as those two on the show.

I watch the show and enjoy it. However, the made up terminology and some other stuff really drives me nuts.

We have to think about them and the made up sounds. I understand these two guys are frinds and have been detecting together for a while. Making up terms or names for things happens when your having fun like they are. From the looks of it they sure have fun.

It's a show and the producers are going to try and make it as interesting as possible even if it's not realistic sounds. Take it for what it's worth, I try and enjoy the finds with the history of the finds. I watch just to see what they find.

Just watchedthe show by my parents house now they think i need a shrink!!!! Lol. Sweet nector!!!!

I know where to find some really sweet nectar!!!

The Digger Show guys are kind of over the top in their lingo, but they seem to be having fun in the hobby. Much better than the wrestler guy who brings in a backhoe. They seem to be clear in that detecting is a hobby about finding and preserving the relics history, and not a get rich thing. I went to their website and found some video clips that haven't been aired. There are some good clips about properly digging holes, using a pinpointer, etc. In one video it explains that once they make a find, the on site Archie takes over and logs the find. The Archie apparently identifies, GPS, photographs, measures, and bag the items. I'm sure the film guys edit out all the real hunting and concentrate of the better finds, but I guess that's necessary to make the show more watchable.

I'd much rather watch Diggers than many other shows being aired today.
